Octavia Road Noise

Featured Replies

I see a lot of threads on Road Noise in Octavias. Has anyone used the noisekiller products - noisekiller.co.uk. They say it works but it costs £185 and I am wary!! I like my relatively new 2.0 Octavia but it is much noisier than my old 1.9 tdi

it is really frustrated why skoda have not yet resolved this issue...they all know about the noise...is it so difficult to better soundproof the cars??

i hope the facelifted octavia is not so noise...

I have to say the Octy I have is the quietest car I've owned. Mind you I have been used to Fords in the past but I'm sure most of the noise is generated by the tyres. I have Dunlops on the front and some random make on the back and it is very quiet at all speeds, especially motorway speeds.

Also when the derv engine sits between 2 - 3k its hardly audible... I am amazed. I've driven 4 Skodas and they have all been very quiet. Mind you they were all dervs.

Back to the original question, haven't used it but I'd imagine it would work well but that is a lot of money for some sticky blanket (allbeit noise cancelling stuff).

Where is the noise coming from?

Agree with Plantman mine is also very quiet too in the cabin whilst driving and no road noise from the tyres.Mine has the original Michelins fittedand 27K now.

Alot of the noise has been reported as coming from the rear hatch/estate/wheel well area.

Wow Taxi 219 - no road noise from the tyres! I've always had road noise from the tyres, in every car i have ever had. My Honda Accord (hatch) drove me to distraction. Unless you go for something like a Rolls you're bound to get road noise.

My Octy is showing signs of wear, at 48000 miles I am getting irritating noise from the ventilation fan, and odd bits of vibration which is speed related. The turbo noise sometimes sounds like a (very) distant siren and makes me look for the ambulance! But that just means it is generally a very quiet car, one of the best i have had.

I cant say i ever noticed it in mine. Sometimes i notice wind noise on the motorway, but i find mine to be very good. especially as prob 16000 of the 20000 miles on my car have prob been motorway miles.

However the radio in mine turns up the faster you go to drown out the engine.

I know what you mean with the road noise...I've just had to accept it.

I've never had a car in the past with a more noisy ride and I have 30 odd cars.

All the same used to drive the odd army landrover up and down the motorways with a canvas roof and nobbly tyres.....god did I love them things and the noise they made!

I dunno if there would be a good cure for the noise problem other than researching the quietest road tyres and trying them.

Wow Taxi 219 - no road noise from the tyres! .

:D Only on newly surfaced roads that are rough tarmac (if you know what i mean  ) is when i get roadnoise coming through.

I do not know where some of the above are driving, but road noise is very serious problem in most areas of this country due to poor surfaces and cheap materials being used.

The various agencies responsible for our roads know full well that they are using poor road materials, but they are cheap and that is how they justify them.

The Octavia on the right surfaced road is a very quiet vehicle, but on the general road surfaces to be found in England and Wales it is bloody noisy, with a lot of its sheet metal acting as a resonator. Of course these sound deadening kits will reduce or stop a great deal of the noise into the body shell, but the tire roar will still be there and very evident to people standing around as the vehicles pass by.

A lot of research has been done on road surfacing, but in the main the English authorities have opted for the cheapest way out, but Skoda could also do more to counter the problem.

folks, Skoda is world-wide famous for the disturbing wind and tire noise.
