New Head Unit Advice

Featured Replies

Hiya All,

Have decided to get a new head unit for my 06Vrs, thought I would canvass opinion on here first.

Dont want a fancy unit that will light up the world ,, just needs to have a ipod connection and better quality sound than the oem unit.

I have fitted head units in fords/vauxhalls but have read that the vrs requires amp kits,, is this true ?

Do non factory units require special fitting kits ? Is it a minefield to do it at home ?

Any recommendations for a central scotland (stirling-ish) dealer ?

Cheers !!!!

I fitted one to my fabia, the hardest part as with most was getting the old one out. Once i managed this, was all good, just plugged it std iso connection. Need a face plate to go round it since the std headunit is slighlty bigger, but that was about £10 in halfords

Should be standard isoa nd a faceplate but you all good to go. SHouldnt be a difficult job espec if you done car stereos before

Standard ISO loom, but you'll need to swap the red and yellow wires over (constant live and ignition). Most headunit's adapter looms will have bullet connectors on these wires for this purpose.

If you want to use the radio, you'll need an aerial amplifier too. They cost about £10ish... halfrauds sell them or:

Autoleads PC5-52 VAG Group 'Bee-Sting' Aerial Interface £10.40 including VAT. PC552. Buy discounted car audio online at In-Car Express

You can get a fascia thing from a skoda dealer for about £2.50. Much better then crappy third party ones.

There isn't much room behind the stereo for all the wires, so you'll need to do a bit of careful cramming

apart from that, its really easy to fit. When you go to get the fascia from skoda, ask them politely to pull your old stereo out for you. My local one did this no fuss for free straight away!
