Who has a Diesel Particulate Filter fitted to their car? Derv Octavias only of course.

Pointless poll but interesting to know the ratio between yes and no. To check if you have one (if you don't know) check in your boot by the spare wheel and look for the sticker with all of the codes on it.

Look for:

OGG = no DPF

7GG = DPF

An example of the sticker is here VW Group Equipment Codes Decoder

This page will also tell you what all of those codes mean.

'05 140 TDI Estate.

Since I'm on 136k it's probably a good thing too.... >)

I've got one and have voted accordingly...

Odd, but no. SWMBO has one on her Fiat Doblo, but my Octy 4x4, no?

For those that have bought from brand new, did you get the option of have one or no?

Would a better poll not be:

Yes I have a DPF - Never seen the often mentioned engine light.

and

Yes I have a DPF - The light comes on all the time and my car is ruined because of it.

Then we might get a real idea of the percentage of forum users with problems, rather than a post every month asking if its OK to buy an Octavia with a DPF because there are some horror stories on here.

Cue DPF light coming on this evening for the first time ever...........

LOL, that's next week ;)

No 4x4 2.0 TDI comes with one...

(although I didn't buy mine from new)

i have one and its a pain in the ass, have to blast up by-pass pointlessly for 10 > 15 mins to put out light. bought diesel to save money ,

am wondering if its possible to by pass ??

Had a DPF in my last 2 cars and not had a single problem with either. Never had the light come on (except once when I had a pressure sensor in the exhaust fail so I do not count that) in over 5 years of driving a car with a DPF. Not sure what all the fuss is about them really.

2010 Octy Vrs TDi with DPF, no their is not an option to leave the DPF off.

yes ive got one vrs 60 plate .........................but not for long :rofl: remap and out it comes

I very much agree although I think the difficulty would be in capturing a reasonable amount of useful information as you'd need to know if the engine was PD or CR, how old, how many miles,what type of driving it was used for and of course if the DPF hasn't been a problem, has been an occasional issue or a major problem to get a reasonable view on DPFs and their failure rates.

With regard to this topic my VRS TDI has a DPF but there wasn't an option as all the VRS diesels have one.

John

In my case - I wouldn't have bought it if it were fitted with a DPF as I often have to do short runs.

Just bought an 06 2.0 TDI PD - no DPF

Yeah I have one in mine but I do 30k a year mostly motorway cruising so not expecting any problems. 40k on the clock and the lights not come on yet.

I bought a petrol as I only do 5-mile runs to work, so DPF would have been no good.

thats my plan as well :thumbup:

DPF's, the most ridiculous invention ever....killing the idea of a diesel car for me, even though it's still probably the way to go for me. Petrol next time for I think.

Had 4 or 5 VW group vehicles with them on, and I've yet to see a light come on. Easy to live with even if they are detrimental to performance. Try to do 4+k revs at least once a week, and walk or bike for journeys of less than a couple of miles.
