Rattles

Featured Replies

Since the cold snap my fab VRS has started to rattle! Specificaly around the glove box area,It sounds like its coming from the glove box door cavity, as if a penny is rattling on the hard plastic. Ive done a few searches but the link to "glovebox rattles" seems to be down. Ive read that it also might be from behind the dash vents, can anybody tell me how to check this area without damaging the vents?

My motor has never had so much as a rattle or squeak before the cold bits!! Could it be that with all the expansion and contraction that something has come loose or broken off?

Cheers

Kit:)

Plastics do change with temperature, so new rattles squeaks are common this time of year. Common ones are dash to bulkhead centre mount behind the centre air vent (bitch to repair). Seat belt anchors hitting centre console. Glovebox catch (needs new lid and sometimes rattles anyway.)

Worth removing pollen filter and cleaning out the airbox, check the two slide clips are secure at the same time.

Can't help you with the problems above, but I had a rattle fixed a few months ago that was in a similar area. A clip that holds the door card on had come away, and was rattling around inside............ Could it be something similar?

I just had a similar thing diagnosed...a rubber bung was missing from the glove box:thumbup:

Have checked the bonnet stay clips and its not them!.Dont particualy want to rip the vents out!!....Anybody know how to do it if i have to ?

Flat wide blade under side of vent; they'll pop out. Just push back in. Don't push/`pull in centre as the vanes are weak.

I'll testify to that! Was poking around trying to find a drivers side rattle and put a thumb through the 3 vains on my dash air vent :( turned out it was a loose fuse box cover! :thumbdwn:

The latching mechanism for the glove box lid can rattle inside the lid. I initially used some extra rubber stops on ours to take up some more slack and stop the rattle but over the years the mechanism has worn and it staretd rattling again. My solution was to gently lever the two sides apart so I had enough room to allow me to squirt a oad of spray grease in and "stick" the mechanism to one side or the other of the lid - it's worked so far...

if it helps , mines got the same issue and my brother in laws old one did too

basicalyl if you hear the rattle, open the catch to the glove box so it doesnt quite release, (just before it goes tight to open) then let go. that should stop it...

it used to be particulally prevelant when you give the accelaration "the beans", but since ive been doing the above, over time its stopped.
