Differences in Michelin Tyre range

Featured Replies

As I have 2 worn Bridgestone Potenza's that are due for replacement soon I was looking to getting Michelin tyres as replacements. I notice though that there are 2 or 3 in the range in 225/45/17 (for TDi vRS).

What are the differences in between the tyres? What do they each offer. I dont take the car to its limit often, if at all and longer life and ride quality is more important than ultimate grip at the cars limits.

Last 2 tyres I had on were the Falken 912's, on the rear. I went for the falkens as I was going to use the car for work and a high chance of punctures and so didnt want to use expensive tyres. As I now have a freelander for work, Id probably prefer to get better tyres and will ultimatly get the Falkens replaced when they wear out.

Advice appreciated.

Our Octy's 17" came from the factory with Primacy pilots on, and my work car has their replacement the Primacy HP.

Octy is on 25kish, and wear still not near replacements as far as I can tell. Rears seem ok, and not suffering with the known camber setting issues others have experienced (ours is MY07 build). EDIT - works car's only don 7k since jan/new, so too new to tell.

And yes, SWMBO thinks she's racing Lewis when she has the car, and doesnt bother checking tyre pressures unless TPM goes off

Michelin pilot 2 on my mk1 Octavia, and the car was still on the originals when it went back to the lease firm with 45K on.

Michellin Exalto are the sportier ones, very good tyres, for a good summer tyre i do like the Goodyear GSD3 or the Vredestien Sportracs.

Another good point. Both tyre I mentioned behaved well in the recent heavy snow, when other cars were spinning wheels and sliding about.

My last car (Renault Sport Clio 182) only ever wore Michelin Pilot Exalto 2 tyres. They were brilliant both on road and on track, in summer and in winter. I really can't fault them.

Don't touch the Premacys!

I've hated them for years, and a quick search on here will find plenty of other bad reviews too - very little grip in any conditions, and they don't last that long either - about 10-15k on the front, longer on the rear, but probably only about 20-25k (I don't have the known camber issues either).

Unfortunately I'm tied into them, as its a company car, and we have to use Michelin energy savers. I had the same problem on my previous Astra too.

I used Primacy Pilots on my Audi A4 3.0 Quattro Sport & they were the mutts nuts I thought, & very highly regarded within the A4 community. Had no issues with grip in any conditions & got over 20k out of a set so i'd be happy to use them again.

I quite liked the Michelin pilot sports
