Ok then,

Got car back, and looks, sounds, feels, even smells great!! I need to get some miles on the clock before they can stick it on the rollers (got 500 done already!!); I'm aiming for at least 1500miles steadily running it in before it goes back.

I have a few jobs to do before that anyway, you'll be glad to know I'm going to sort those GREEN rear callipers to match the RED fronts (looking at a 300mm rear disc conversion too....) I also need to change the front wishbone bushes, fit my new oil catch tank and relocate the battery....what fun......!

Pics to follow shortly!!

Steve:)

Mmmmm... sounds awesome :D

Great news. Bet you can't wait for it all to be run in/mapped.

This is how the engine bay looks at the moment... Nothing special, but then that isn't my thing really....too lazy to keep it clean!!

All of the secondary breather system has been stripped, keeps it all nice and simple.

Intake pipe is nearly 4" all the way in, and the angles look good with no restrictions, so I might keep it as it is rather than create a bespoke jobby...... we'll see.

Steve:)

4"? what maf are you using?

Going in tomorrow for the final stint....

Methanol tank and pump has been bolted in the boot (pics to follow), inlet hasn't been modified (delcac style), but it is a good 3"-3"⅓ diameter (Not 4" as I previously thought!!) and the flow is beautiful, no sharp bends or corners to disrupt the flow so I think i'll keep it as it is.

Oil catch tank will be fitted this coming week too.

Can't wait!!!!:D:D:D

Steve:)

should be great but i can't see a bend in the intake making a huge difference anyway :)

I can't wait for this :D

You must have very deep pockets and a very large grin when you right foot needs stretching.

Its amazing and cant wait for he final pics.

this is going to be a treat to drive when its finished. will it still be your daily driver.

one on the water methanol injection do you reckon you could persuade them to do before and after power runs(in with the fitment cost;)) when they fit it. id love to see the real gains of the kit. ive read loads about it which give predicted gains but i havent seen any technical proof.

Yes it will be my daily drive - I am a secondary school teacher and my students love it more than I do!!

The meth can be turned off by a switch on the dash so it should be easy enough to do both power runs.

Steve:)

very interested to see what difference it makes. be very worth while if it gives more power by just making the combustion process more efficient.

whats the going rate for methonal, i take it you will just buy in bulk, and also how often would you expect to re-fill the water meth-mixture?

I think I have forgotten what my car looks like....

Seems like years since I last drove it with any real umph...

Roll on the weekend!:D

Not sure on price of methanol......

If you buy in bulk, as in a 205 litre barrel, you can get it for around 90p a litre, including the cost of the barrel & delivery. I'm still working hard through my barrel.

I thought methanol "goes off" do you have a problem with storage when you buy in bulk?

Hello all!

I will post a progress report soon - I've been out of action for a couple of months.

Regards,

Steve:)

I thought methanol "goes off" do you have a problem with storage when you buy in bulk?

Just seen this :o No, methanol has a long shelf life. I have a 230 litre drum and have only used about 1/4 of it so far. The drum is sealed with a screw type fitting, so no contaminants can get in. I think methanol is so corrosive/poisonous, it would be difficult to make it any more volatile! :D

I think the issue is that methanol sucks the moisture out of the air, dilutes itself and goes a bit manky like a gel, even dilutions of over 25% Methanol in water will burn but it might not go through your injection system.

http://www.methanex.com/products/faqs.html

Here is a safety data sheet for Methanol, it is a bit long but stick with it, it will tell you some important things.

Burns with an invisible flame

Can aggravate some diseases

Can cause some diseases

Can explode in air at concentrations between 6% and 36%

Tells you what PPE you need

Tells you that in water it will kill fish and bacteria

Handling and storage instructions.

If you store a 230l drum of Methanol in a commercial setting you have obligations as an employer.

(I am assuming you are an employer)

You must carry out a risk assessment of health risks involving the substance (for each substance, not just the Methanol. It actually applies to oils and stuff too).

The assessment must be reviewed regularly to asses if is still valid.

Then

If you have more than 5 employees and there is a significant risk you must record the findings of the assessment and the measures you take to control the risk.

You also have to consider the environmental impact of a spill and put in place an action plan and prepare a spill kit.

If you break the COSHH regulations you can be fined (off the top of my head) £20,000 at the magistrate's court and £50,000 for breaking environmental regs.

You must also have a copy of the safety data sheet with the Methanol "from cradle to grave".

Sorry for boring you but, I'm a geek.
