Window Carrier

Featured Replies

Ive read that some Fabias have rivets holding the carrier and some have bolts. Whats stopping me from drilling the rivets out and fitting rivnuts so i can use bolts? Was there a reason for changing from bolts to rivets?

Thanks

Rivets are cheaper and quicker to fit than bolts. If you change to bolts you will have to fit some threaded rivet inserts first.

I've changed mine to rivnuts and bolts. You can then take them apart when needed. Rivets are just cheaper

Cool. Wanted to check before i went ahead and did it incase there was a reason Skoda did this.

Skoda used rivets so all the fixings got done up to the same torque as they are designed to break off at a set level. they thought this may sort the leaking issue.

How easy are rivnuts to use, I've heard of them but never seen them. I want to take my carriers off to sound deaden the doors and understand the rivets that hold the carrier on a larger than my standard riveting tool would be able to handle.

They are easy to fit, but you need the specisl tool to crimp them into place. The cheapest ones are the alumium type, the steel inserts are stronger, but the tools are more expensive/
