ABD tip fitting problems

Featured Replies

Finally got my ABD tip from impossible performance after 3 months of waiting, and a bit disapointed that it looks second hand even though I ordered new and been charged for new :thumbdwn:

Anyway, decided to fit it today..... thought it would take about an hour to fit, but had loads of problems and five hours later, I was wishing I had never set eyes on an ABD tip.

Problem 1

Even without the "O" ring fitted the tip would not fit onto the turbo inlet, I had to set it up in the lathe and skim 1 thou off.

Problem 2

With the "O" ring fitted the tip would not fit onto the turbo inlet due to the "O" ring reccess in the tip been under cut by approx 20 thou (compared to the OEM tip) again, sorted in the lathe.

Problem 3

Hole centre for the securing allen bolt out by 4.5 mm, sorted easily with a file.

Other than that it was a doddle to fit ......... I was thinking of fitted an ABD inlet manifold as well, but for some reason I've gone right off the idea.

Anyone else had problems ??????

i had pretty much the same problem, after enlarging the big hole then dragging the mounting hole over enough (took about 5 hours) i lost my temper, and hit it with a huge hammer until it was flat as a pancake!!

waste of £80 (bought mine 2nd hand) but oh well, breaking it made me feel a bit better

Neuspeed ones ive fitted, fit fine

well the abd inlet manifold is only good if you have a big turbo;)

also to behonest after storys ive heard it wouldnt be a surprise if it was second hand..!!!!! and 3 months aint bad either

mike is a nice guy but his customer service is **** to say the least always lies about when you going to get stuff etc etc so that side is a complete shambles

as a buisness man i would say the blokes heart aint in it customer wise...

.

but his custom maps are amazing infact i would say 1 off the best if not the best:thumbup:

Are you sure you bought the ABD tip for the KO3s, as I watched Mike at IP fit an ABD tip on my old Octy vRS in about ten mins without having to modify anything, just a straight bolt on fit.

Bill (vrs180), what turbo and other mods are you running to get that 247bhp in your sig, or is a Jabba map?

The ABD tip for a KO4 is 1mm smaller in diameter and has a different fixing point, are you sure it wasn't a KO4 tip you were trying to fit to a KO3 turbo.

I fitted one to my old VRS, took about 30 mins, with no modification required and all holes lined up perfectly. It sounds like you were supplied the wrong part.

Bet thats whats happened...... I ordered a tip for a 53 plate vrs with a KO3s turbo.

The invoice from Impossible performance describes the tip as "ABD racing turbo intake 45mm".

Do you think it will be OK to leave it on or should I try and get Mike to get the right one.

thanks.

I think you may have voided your warranty with all the modification you have performed on it.

I can't say weather it will be alright to run or not as I haven't seen it. If it now damages your turbo you would not have a leg to stand on. Not that this is likely I hope. The trouble is now that you have modified the unit it would be difficult to return it. You should have just returned it straight away and asked for a replacement or a refund.

Beretta

My car is standard apart from.

Jabba custom remap ;), Miltec 2.75" turbo back, OO7P, power gasket, modified SMIC and pipe work, Ik20s, Mobil 1 and Mobilube 1 SHC.

TBH I'm not really interested in jabba's max figures of 247 Cv and 344 Nm, but at the end of the day, they are all I've got, hence why they are on my sig.

What did interest me was the befor and after difference of 42 Cv and 79 Nm, and the way the car now drives.

:)

another set of pub figures thrown into the hole lol

my car runs 220's but hope for atleast 250 next week as im cleaning it

My old black Octavia vRS ran 249.1bhp on a KO3s before I sold it. :P:P:P

this was the one mentioned before wasnt that only with nos???

did it have a special 30bhp intercooler and go faster stripes aswell???

Never used Nos on any car I have owned.
