Octavia I Bengie's Ambulance.

Featured Replies

Now that the Fabia vRS estate has gone next up is the Octavia 4x4 estate belonging to our own Bengie.

I have had the car for about a year I think now surely, must have pushed it further than Ben has ever driven it and its not light by any means. But now I have some space and a clear schedule I can crack on with it. I have already done a large part of the work, removing the engine and stripping, rebuilding with a donor engine and collecting and fitting all the required parts for the six speed conversion.

'All' that is left is bolt the beautiful manifold to the engine, fit the 'large' turbo back on, bolt up the downpipe and make the exhaust fit when its all in. then get it all plumbed in and running again.

Hopefully getting started this week, so pics on the way.

Looking forward to it - she seemed quite full of 'bits' still, still remember having the ambulance on the trailer behind the PD100 estate, didnt do the clutch many favours

that was an awesome hill start in wheatley :D

I did the 'right' thing in giving it plenty of wheelspin, hoping to be fine. Annoyingly the tyres gripped and the clutch did not  - to be fair, it was only about 2.5 tonnes instead of the max towing weight of < 1 hehehehe ;) - didnt half smell funny :o

Still, she managed to survive that caning, plus another one or two, and the clutch on the estate should hold a lot easier ;) - that said, I am hoping not to repeat that trick again :P

Why the name 'ambulance' ? Just wanna know....:)

Because its white, don't think it's anymore technical than that.

But what are you going to put outside when you've finished it ........it's become sort of a landmark for unit 18

Or maybe something to do with the way everyone moves out of the way when they see it powering toward them with Ben behind the wheel!!:rofl::rofl:

About time Ben got this sorted:P I remember when he came to me for his alignment and he said about an annoying rattle on the exhaust, we checked and found a blade off his turbo

Well shock horror a bit of progress tonight.

Unbolted the turbo, took off the cast manifold that we were going to use and fitted up the tubular one Ben had bought. Now you can see why these cost what they do, it dropped on perfectly and all bar 2 nuts can be done up with a ratchet/airgun, brilliant clearance.

Wastegate is gong to be interesting as the position of the turbo now puts it right against the top of the cylinder head with some fabrication coming up thats for sure.

I was going take some closer detail pics but the battery run out on my phone :(

More work soon :)

Nice! How big are the inlet and outlet on that turbo?!
