Brake Pads... Somebody Stop Me!

Featured Replies

I think you need calipers, carriers, discs and pads - the whole brake setup, in other words.

yes you do .

see this guide.

Changing pads and even discs will get you a certain amount, but at the end of the day, the bigger surface area and standard parts of the 312mm setup will always get you significantly more braking capacity with no reduction in NVH comfort or longevity, and any VAG dealer can service them normally, they just need to know you need Octi/Passat brake pads and discs when you book the service. And you don't need to warm them up either - which is what counts after 90 miles of motorway driving and you need to do an emergency stop;)

New 'performance' discs seem to be about £150 the pair, plus new pads at a further £50-ish makes the OEM upgrade route seem less outrageous (£325 for complete sets incl. hoses delivered from VAG-bitz for as-new TT brakes).

I'm seriously considering buying a 312mm upgrade as there are some fairly reasonable kits on fleebay. Has anyone included braded hoses in their set up?

What difference do they make?

Also, what actual difference is there in performance between the 312mm and standard 288mm set up?

Do they fade?

Do the rear brakes get even less use & rust up?

Are they any more sensitive?

Doubt it as they are not standard. Braided hoses will make little difference as the standard ones are renforced anyway

Plenty of info on the other end of a search. it's going to be subjective but there are plenty of opinions
