Skoda Yeti - Official press release and photos

Compact, attractively styled and full of surprises: Škoda Auto will celebrate the extension of its model range to five with the introduction of Yeti at Geneva. The 4.2 metre long, five-door vehicle bears the well-known features of the brand. An impressive front end with a ribbed grille and friendly looking headlamps confidently demonstrate Yeti’s relationship with the Škoda family. Sturdy flanks and distinct wings give Yeti its robust and solid look on 17 inch wheels, without coming across as bulky and heavy.

The Yeti is a clever response by Škoda Auto to the increasingly important ecological issues in the popular and growing SUV class. Škoda has met the demands for a cleanly styled body, a high seat position and versatile operating options with a design, which despite its robustness, exudes lightness rather than bulky shapes. The Yeti also meets the needs for environmental care, luggage space, safety and great road holding.

A carefully balanced running gear concept allows the driver to implement what the design implies: fun and dynamic to drive. The Yeti distinguishes itself with very agile handling coupled with high safety reserves. As well as the stylish exterior of the Yeti, the driver and passengers feel safe.

This impression is reinforced, among other things, by the turbo-charged and frugal engines. Two petrol engines and three diesel are on offer: The entry unit (front wheel drive), a petrol engine with four cylinders and 1.2 litre capacity, delivers 77 kW thanks to a power-providing turbo charger (105 PS). The fuel consumption stays within tight limits.

The Yeti is also available with the following engines:

Petrol:

1.2 TSI with 77 kW (front wheel drive)

1.8l TSI with 118 kW (4x4)

Diesel:

2.0l TDI CR with 81 kW (front wheel drive, 4x4)

2.0l TDI CR with 103 kW; (4x4)

2.0l TDI CR with 125 kW (4x4)

The Yeti is very well equipped for load lugging, too. The luggage compartment volume is flexible; up to 1760 litres is available by removing the rear seats. A luggage cover and net as well as lashing rings are available to further secure the load. As the Yeti is born of a brand which offers clever automobile concepts as its core competence, it is designed with a highly flexible luggage system.

The Yeti is a clever compact SUV that is bound to create a stir in this segment. Excellent handling characteristics and high agility are features of all trims. The 4x4 variants are also characterised by outstanding off-road suitability and excellent traction. These, coupled with superb emission values and low fuel consumption meet the needs for a socially acceptable extension of the SUV class.

I think its a great looking car, and nice to see the new family dashboard!!

Can't wait for the MkIII Octy :P

A baby 2.0CR engine seems a bit peculiar though.

A baby 2.0PD engine seems a bit peculiar though.

Yeah, the dash looks great. Surprised how upmarket they've gone with it looking at the interior and engine lineup. All three diesels are CRs and not PDs. Glad Skoda have been allowed to use all the latest engines for a change!

I like that very smart

2.0l TDI CR with 125 kW (4x4)

Ace.

That looks good but it really needs a 1.6 TDI engine in the range

Hopefully wont be long until they release pricing details now.

Skoda is bringing the 1.6CR engine out in the Octavia with 105PS so it wouldn't make sense to put this engine into the Yeti as it's the same output PS wise as the 2.0CR engine, obviously it'll be better on fuel.

I imagine the 1.6CR will make its way into the Yeti eventually probably in a detuned state like 85PS and labeled as a Greenline model.

In any case, as soon as the Yeti appears on VOT I'll be ordering a CR170 in either Elegance/3 or how ever they choose to badge the top spec model, in a funky colour with a few nice options, I'm hoping park assist makes it accross to the Yeti.

Hmm - I quite like that...

There isnt that any funky colours, not even a blue simular to the concept :( only funk there is red. hmmm... the rest look really grown up. The Dolomite alloy option looks good tho! :)

Bigfoot?

Colour and wheel options here: ?koda Auto - Geneva 2009

Hope they do a white roof option like on the concept, that would look good with any colour. I think I'd have anthracite grey or corrida red.

Hmm. Shorter back-to-front than the Fabia estate. Intruiging.

I'm hoping park assist makes it accross to the Yeti.

Is park assist activated by a little button with a 'P' on it and a picture of a steering wheel? If so, then yes, it's on the Yeti :)

I actually like the look of this...... would consider a mid power diesel.......scratch that ill take the 125kw diesel..... (170PS) thats gonna shift........

To any moderators reading this thread, can we have an official Yeti section on the forums now? There should be more technical info, photos and launch date info coming up soon and it would be good to have somewhere to post it.

Emailed Skoda about when the yeti is available, had a phone call today. Skoda customer services said October/November time, was hoping it would be sooner than that.

Off road testing, hope those wheels are available on production:

Edit: Ahh, those wheels are on production, 17" 'Dolomites' Much nicer than the ones on the showcar in Geneva!

Looks quite dull after the concept.

Not sure about the looks but I think the looks will grow on me and that the top of the range170 CR TDI will be great.

I would love to see the 1.2 TSI engine in the Fabia.
