what fuel do you use

Featured Replies

Has anybody got any data on the differences for the use of super against boggo 95 octane for Octi VRs. Been running mine on Super but could only get boggo the other day and it seems flat or is that just the anti-placebo affect:confused:

I usually use Tesco Super 99 unless I am going for a long run.

When I went to Liverpool I was running Tesco and I used nearly a full tank, on the way back I could only get regular and I only used 3/4 of a tank.

There is a noticeable difference.

Definitely not placebo, 95 has no place in any engine IMO. Due to my map setting I have to use minimum 97 ron although I can switch it for 95 If required but I find in mpg terms alone it's a false economy.

I use Tesco 99 mostly but have used Shell V-power and like it very much also.

If ragging it then I normally go for Optimax as I don't think much of the Tesco 99 stuff. If I'm just pottering about or on a motorway jaunt then I tend to stick to regular as I don't feel that there is a benefit for that type of driving.

I use Shell V-Power 99, and there is a noticable improvement over boggo supermarket 95.

I get more miles to the gallon (maybe 1 or 2), and the engine is much happier.

The vRS is designed to run on 98RON, and should be run on 95 only in exceptional circumstances with reduced power (according to the manual).

Car's get mapped to a fuel, hence tuners asking what fuel you use when you get your car mapped. A standard vRS is mapped to 98RON.

V-Power or Tesco 99, never 95!

Car didn't feel right on 95, performed better on 99 and gave more MPG in all areas, got an extra 40-50 miles from a tank on a run! :D

mine definatly feels flatter and less responsive on 95, i also loose about 50miles from a tank.

I put 95 in mine once, on a day trip to France, thinking to save money... but it ran like a dog.

Mine gets Tescos 99 most of the time, V-Power occasionally.

The power figure in my sig was done on a tank of V-Power.

Tescos 99

V-power is over priced in Cardiff as theres only one Shell station.

i mostly use Tesco 99 aswell (get points!) but use shell if no tesco's around, i do think theyre is a slight difference between tesco and Shell but not enough to justify the extra price and lack of points.

i found BP ultimate to be pretty poor aswell.

I run LPG or regular, and i must say I notice a hugh difference IN MY POCKET!!!!!! the car goes really well on the gas as well. once I sort out my boost leak I will try some comparison block 120 runs.

Always ran mine on Tesco 99 or V power

Yeah but yours is a slow old 4x4 not a sporty vRS!!:D Hehe! Unless your supposed to run on 98 as well?

So does the same apply to the 4x4s?

Not sure, I'd guess the 4x4 is designed to run on normal 95. Try looking inside the fuel filler flap for 95 or 98RON markings. Or failing that, check the owners manual.

All vRS's clearly state 98 tho.

previos owner of mine ran 99ron so do i , never had 95 in it

I'm glad i just read this thread, i will never be using 95 RON again!

I will be sticking to Tesco 99 from now on then

Question is can using 95 RON for a long period of time cause any permanent damage to the vRS engine?

Normally put in £40-50 of vpower a week, have done since I bought it.

First couple of days I had the car I used local supermarket petrol, then tried Shell V-Power at my next fill up.

The engine seemed much happier, responsive etc, so now I only use V-Power.

:rofl::rofl: not as slow as an 06 Audi 2.0T A4 convertible :rofl::rofl:

Nothing major tbh just the car will of adapted to the lower fuel. there maybe some build up of stuff on the valves etc that the higher octabe fuels claim to prevent but nothign that should cause the end of the world.

double points at the moment :D:D

You should have a great big grin on your face if you put a tank of V-Power in it after running it on 95 RON for months

Petrol - sorry Tesco's bog standard. Tried all sorts of others no real difference

Started usin 95. then used 99 on special ocasions and vpower.

then when the price went right up i used 95 for aboput 2 yr period. then started usin 99 few times before RS Tuning got their hands on it. had to use vPower then and was remapped on that and ran spot on. then gone back to 99 and its good but not quite as smooth. still good though. only put 95 in at brighouse tesco as it doesnt do 99 or 97. (not very often though)
