Bike rack

Featured Replies

I need to get a bike rack to cary my mountain bike on the back of my fabia, has any one done this and what type was it and where from?

I use a Thule roof rack and cycle carrier. Better than a boot mount imo.

I've tried the halfords one, It works just about. Im really not too confident with it on and ive tightened all the straps up as tight as they physicaly can go and they have pinged off in the past. So haven't taken the bikes out too much. Its not exactly best suited for the fabia rear :thumbdwn:. I guess with all things you get what you pay for.

I use the Halfords rear high mount 3 cycle carrier (on their website, not the value one.) and it works fine. It has 6 straps, 2 that mount at the top, 2 on the side and 2 at the bottom and you can secure it really tightly. I've had 2 bikes on it without any issues at all... not sure I'd want 3 though!

The bottom two straps have hooks on the end. If you feel around on the metal panel behind the bumper there are 2 holes perfectly situated for the hooks to hook into.

I tried a hatch carrier but decided it wasn't secure enough for the bikes I wanted to carry, now have the Skoda roof bars and 2 Thule carriers up top.

Cheers

Thule aero roof bars and mounts together with thule 591 ProRide cycle carriers for me.

Very quick to load/unload bikes and provide the option to lock them to the car which is handy for short periods ie pub car parks after a ride. Not sure i would trust the locks with an expensive bike over extended periods but still handy.

Have used boot mounted carriers previously but haven't regretted the change to roof mounted - they are much more secure IMO.

I agree that roof mounts are preferable but they end up costing a lot more money so I guess it depends how often you're going to use it... and how far you'll be travelling with bikes attached.
