Facelift views

How do you see the new facelift - good job, bad job or indifferent ?

Not keen, prefer pre-facelift.

Must admit to being indifferent about Skoda design since the Roomster

I like some aspects of it, the interior and back end look ok. The front is ok'ish, I guess but it may look better in the flesh.

I dont like the new style climate controls, I much prefer the older style dual zone which is much easier to use.

like the lights on the pictures, not so sure in the flesh and my jurys still out on them

prefer the new bumpers

nice new dashod and climatronics

......

....

and the new huge mickey mouse mirrors, the less said the better  :uglyhammer:

I think the front looks too modern for the rest of the car. It doesn't really fit in.

New steering wheel has yet to win me over, and the facelift has given Skoda the oppertunity to hike up the prices of many factory extras. I am warming to the new grill though. ...

I like the changes on the whole, but the changes do seem a little afterthought.

Do like it now I've seen one in the metal. Interior changes are mostly good, however, let down massively by that fugly steering wheel.

Hmmm - sort of not keen to luke warm so far, must be someone who really rates it?

Sometimes it takes a while to warm to changes and that is not always a bad thing. Also it can be a touch of sour grapes if a new model makes an earlier model look too dated although I do not think that is the case with the new Octy.

When I see an immaculate Mk1 Fabia on the road (ignore the tatty ones), I wonder if the Mk 2 is a real improvement aesthetically? The Fabia was a radical change whereas the Octy & Superb are less so, almost Golflike in their development.

For me the new front is maybe styled a bit too 'soft' for me. I prefer the more angular front of the pre-facelift.

But as said maybe it's a time thing and it'll grow. Not so keen on a lot of new cars out at the moment. But I'm really liking the new Fiesta and Mazda 2 & 6. Same designer?

Small evoloution rather than revoloution.

Have to agree with flynntech, the new headlights don't fit with the rest of the car IMO. However grille is nice, the rear end looks a bit fresher and more standard toys.

The interior is a step up though - better put together and more upmarket feeling (don't ask what that actually feels like, its just there!).

Think if you can get a pre-facelift octy with new interior you have the best of both worlds - like the LE!! Can't wait:D

adore new dashboard (pity u can't install it on per-FL), but nothing else

Seems like I'm in the minority, but I really quite like the facelift.

Externally it's a simple enough idea - vaguely copy the headlight shape of the current BMW 3 series and get rid of the pointless red strip across the rear lights - but it works for me. I reckon it looks a lot smarter. A bit odd in photos, looks better in the metal IMO. Think darker colours suit it best, so headlights and that new grille stand out more.

Inside, new stereo looks good (and MDI is a big bonus). Like the other interior changes too.

And then there's the 1.4TSI with DSG paddleshift, which is the main thing that got me interested.

Yeah, I like it, and given that I'm currently weighing up whether to buy a second hand or new Octavia, the facelift improvements may well help tip the balance.

Just to help address the balance, I also think it looks good, in particular the new grille and the interior especially in Elegance trim. As with you, I too was drawn by the availability of the turbocharged petrol 1.4 TSI with the DSG option. Mind you, I always though the outgoing model was a very nice car.

Still cannot understand why the UK importers, VW Group, have not made the Elegance 1.8 TSI DSG available over here - very weird decision !!

The facelift's lights suck compared to the pre-facelift's. And I'm talking about real measured test data that I saw in a car mag.

Well, having had the new 09 plate for a week now :D, the overall looks of the car have definitely grown on me. Was not sure about the front end initially, looked too "soft" compared to the sharp lines of the old version. But now it seems to have more presence, maybe its the combo of the nice new big grill and the lights, but everyone who has seen it, have all said it looks very smart. The dash it definitely an improvement, but is marred by the climatronic controls - not as simple to use as the old one, and the radio volume button, being just too far to the left to reach comfortably, without taking your hand off the gear lever. Must specify a MFSW next time. The back looks more smarter with the addition of the reflective strips in the bumper, and more modern looking font for the letterring. Also, with the car now completely colour coded, no more nasty matt black lower sills/bumpers.

Obviously, having taken the plunge my comments maybe biased, however, the number of positive comments that have been made about the car from my customers, (I am a private hire/taxi) definitely appear to give it a big thumbs up:thumbup:

well, to be honest i would have never bought a skoda....in any case czechs are not famous for their design abilities and fantasy :)

However, Superb II made me alert (damn tight budget :) ) and when the facelift octavia came out, it certainly changed my mind...that overall freshness and classy interior was a great push...

the 1.8 TSI with DSG is very 'sexy' and pretty affordable compared to other VAG cars...

i am certain that it will sell a lot...

The upgrade from Octy I to II was a vast improvement but I'm not so sure about the new one. Guess I'll have to go to my dealer and have a proper look as it's always better in the metal than in photos. Agree with posters about the steering wheel though !
