Classy, comfy, quickish, understated; suggestions?

Featured Replies

Er, as per the title. Think BMW 330 sort of quickness (ballpark, not benchmark), suitable for 400 miles in a day (though not necessarily every day), and the sort of thing that does not lead observers to make any strong judgement on the owner/driver.

I'll start the bidding at a Subaru Legacy 3.0. :)

Not really the right idea but the best car I ever had to cover mega-distances by the clear stretch was a W140 S500. Masses of space, utterly silent, 28mpg @ 85mph, only problem was they does tend to stand out a bit.

Plus they are so cheap now!

Ah, but the bodykit and spoiler somewhat preclude the "understated" requirement.

A volvo with the fantastically smooth D5 engine - SWMBO's father got an '09 V70 last week and it's amazingly smooth - good torque shove, too :)

Was going to suggest an S60 D5 (180bhp). Some deals out there too.

My barber picked up a year old S80 D5SE for £13000.

Ohhhhh, I don't know. I think that adds to the charm and mystery of the vehicle
