First Upgrade for my 1.8T L&K

Featured Replies

Alright Guys n Girls,

What do ya reckon should be my first upgrade for my Luarin & Klement that i have just bought (2001 Y). I've already found out its got the AUM engine in it, and have been advised this is the more tuneable of the 1.8T series.

Been looking on Jabba's website and a few things have caught my eye, but being that i aint exactly great with engines, i thought i should get some tips as to what first here.

The first thing that springs to mind is the re-map, but it doesnt say anything at jabba about the 150bhp 1.8T just the vRS (180BHP)- so what figures am i likely to be looking at after a re-map?

The second was one of there turbo kit upgrades, a stage one being

Hello,

You should end up with similar power to the vRS (180) engine - in excess of 200BHP. Give them a call and have a chat.

As for the spoiler, aftermarket parts can be otained from JHM Butt Co (iirc) and Milotec. The OEM version will be in the parts catalogue - ask your dealer or wait for someone here who has a copy (DGW? :))

Have you looked at Revo? If you do a search you should find plenty of 'debate' on the subject but one thing is for certain, JBS (Revo dealer at Chesterfield) is alot closer to Sheffield than Jabba. :)

Jabbasport have a high satisfaction rating with Briskoda members and offer custom remaps which should give you 220+bhp with no other mods. If you sign up for one of Adrian's (SkodiRS) Jabba group buys you get 10% off the standard price of a remap - and off the variable boost controller if you opt for that too. But whatever ECU tuning route you go (with the possible exception of Superchips), you should end up with more than enough extra power to put a very big smile on your face.

So, no one gone for a jabba turbo upgrade kit on here yet then??

Maybe i should just look at the re-map then, that may have me ****tin my kecks anyhow lol

Thanks for the advice about Revo too DaveH, i will take a look, and like you say less to travel, so long as they're as reputable i guess.

I'd also recommend Revo from JBS in Chesterfield, they can also give you a free trial on your car before buying.

There is currently a VERY BIG waiting list for Turbo upgrades from Jabba AFAIK unless you can arrange your own fitting and it's not just bolt on either, there is a certain amount of fabricating to be done. JBS recently installed an IHI kit to a Golf and it has been mapped using Revo software.

Also you might want to look at stiffening up the suspension too - no point having a fast car if you can't go round corners ;)

Yeah i agree there, the word "BOUNCE" comes to mind with the L&K, kinda like on a big dipper ride sometimes lol

Definitely remap first - you should get 220-230 bhp from a Jabba one and I guess similar from Revo/APR/AMD. They're all significantly more expensive than Jabba though, especially with the group buy discount (of which there is one going on right now). Which dealer wants to be the first to match Jabba's price on a Revo map for group buys??

Suspension - ex VRS suspension bits improved mine quite a bit, or if you want to spend a little more (well quite a lot more), KW2s or 3s.

Then exhaust, induction kit, strut braces/ARBs, brakes (at least uprated pads), Samco hoses, and finally back round the loop looking for more power again ....

If you're ready to start on the (very) slippery slope I'll introduce you to the JBS lot. The team at Jabba are also a great bunch of guys.

Choices, choices

....... they can also give you a free trial on your car before buying.
But remember that at the end of the 5 hour trial the sotware reverts itself back to the factory level of performance - not to the original code. This has insurance and and warranty implications.

That's true but it's useful to give an idea of how a remapped car will perform whichever tuner you use and if your planning a remap anyway it shouldn't be an issue. Also if you really have a problem with the code remaining in the ECU it can be reflashed to standard.

The best bet is do plenty of research on the options, phone the tuners to see what you think of them and blag a few test drives if you can.

Not a problem friend. Don't worry about JBS, they've been around for a good few years to my knowledge and have produced unique cars to very high standards, for example, the mk11 golf with R32 motor which is doing the rounds in the magazines at the moment. I would recommend popping down to have a look around and a chat with the guys. You're also bound to meet Rich1068, he's always down there. :D:thumbup:

It'll be better once the heli-pad is ready. :D

Based on my experience with the 1.8t

1. Jabba remap

2. Suspension & Brakes upgrade, Kw's & big front discs, 17" wheels needed for really big brakes !!

3. Exhaust, Blue flame full system with sports cat ( I wouldnt go full de-cat, its too boomy & also engine check light comes on which also puts the engine into a safer mode which backs off the performance

4. Front mounted Intercooler, got mine from Allard turbosports

5. Boost controller (can be done with remap if you have the money at the time)

Basic map will give between 220 & 230 & is the best mod by far

Handling & brakes then should be sorted

FMIC will not give more power as such but you find as you start to use the car hard the std intercooler cant cope & the power falls back

Bigger zorst lets the car breath better & Boost controller allows slightly higher boost to be run safely, the 2 should take you close to 250 bhp

Bigger turbo kit may not be needed as 250 through the front wheels is enogh to spin the wheels on a regular basis

I would highly recomend Jabbasport, they have worked on both our cars & everything they have done has been to an incredibly high standard & definately value for money, Out of interest they prepare the car which consistently wins in the VW cup races.

Stuart (off on the Cannonball, back a week sunday)

can only comment on my experiance with revo, very versatile bit of kit,had to run my car this weekend on 95 RON petrol, couple of ignition key turns and it was back to stock and running lovely,as and when i go back to 98 RON petrol i can just click the keys and run at "chipped" 98 ron program, great for when i want to give it some wellie,or just want some mpg.there are a fair few revo dealers in and arounfd the country now and there customer service are very good,if you fit a 4 bar fuel pressure regulator and get revo you can expect a very good result(fpr is circa 60quid)then the cost of revo on top.

jabba have been tuning vw based cars now for yonks and there reputation takes them world wide,i have no doubt about that ,but "for me "convience was the buyer
