VRS Suspension

Featured Replies

I have access to Fabia VRS suspension and i was wondering if it would be a straight swap to fit on my 1.4mpi. i was just wondering as it may come cheap, but if it was worth it.

No - well, "yes", it will fit, but the vRS springs are much tougher than the 1.4 so the car will sit stupidly high, and will not drive well. You'd be better off getting decent eibach springs rated for your car. :)

it was just a quick though seen as i may be able to get the fronts and backs for about £50

Not sure if you can use the 1.4 springs in the vRS dampers, but I doubt that would gain anything and I bet there might still be a problem somewhere along the line.

Eibach pro-kit springs are around £100 for all 4, for a 30mm drop without resorting to coilovers.

the thing with dropping it that far is that you will reach the bump stops and in theory bottom out the car which starts to become incredibly dangerous, so to lower it, the car NEEDS the shorter struts which starts at about £400.

surely the VRS ones are slighty harder spring rate, which is what im after, if i measure the unloaded spring on both sets and see if there is any difference? then would it just be a straight swap or is there different top mount holes etc.

I doubt you will need to touch the bump stops just lowering it 30mm on lowering springs only. :)

The mounting points are the same but the K and Zeta of the spring will be so much higher that you will not get sufficient compression of the spring to give you a drop, unless of couse you stick an extra 100 kilos of pig iron under the bonnet ;)

trust me, its happened so many times you cant do one without the other

plus i live and go to uni around the country side so the bumps would make it reach the stops. ive managed to scrape my sump before going at 40

As Jason says, definitely dont put vRS springs on a non-vRS, it just does not work well.

And on the bump stops front - yes you DO have to do that as it will be dangerous as hell otherwise as it does hit them, and that was with Eibachs vs stock vRS springs, let alone going from 'full height' Mk1 Fabia down to the same 'height' :)

do you mean that it will be to hard for the weight of the car? please explain K and Zeta its terms im not familier with

why not may i ask?

Sorry, K is the spring stiffness and Zeta is the compression ratio. the 1.4 engine will weigh far far less than the vRS and as you can imagine the car wont settle to where a vRS would. Not through experience but I guess it would throw the handling a bit as well.

what about just changing the rears would it be worth playing around, if i can get them at a cheap enough price? thanks for the explanation

Seriously, having been down a similar road myself, just hold on to your stock suspension until you can afford a proper shock/spring setup.

I had 30mm PI springs on standard shocks, and holy god it was awful. Bouncy, hard, jarring, and the bump stops had to be trimmed. And that was with springs which were apparently rated for my car

In the end I thought ''Sod the expense'' and just got Eibachs on Koni FSD's from Awesome. Never looked back.

Suspension, along with brakes, is something you really shouldn't skimp on. Just save up and do it properly
