Water Pump Pics

Featured Replies

Just thought I'd share the pics I took to prove that the standard vRS water pump is about as much use as a chocolate fire guard!!!

The pump in the pic was taken off an 03 vRS Estate that had covered only 47,000 miles.

Thankfully i had researched on this site before I sent her in to have a full service, cambelt change and water pump change. All of the pieces have been flushed out of the system and she's now running as well as ever. The pics show I had a lucky escape though !!!!!

OMG... guess you had it replaced it with the up-rated VW metal impeller water pump?

Most definitely :D:thumbup:!!!

And where would you get this mystical water pump?

I think I see what caused the failure, was that ring going around the cooling system too?:)

Had mine done in nov on 54k and mine was perfect, and hard couldnt break any bits off. the only prob I had was a small weaping leak on it.

I went for the std skoda bits though. heard that iff the metal one jams then it can break the timin belt.

I would rather have to flush the system than rebuild the engin lol

Umm.. Awesome?

Or some dodgy back street unit18 place down Newport Pagnell way? ;)

I would guess a VW dealer rather than a Skoda dealer?

...says me who knows zilch about cars:O

VW dont make or supply a metal water pump, neither do Skoda for the 1.8T engine.

Looks like an OE box though Ross ???

Got mine from friend at First Line...as i could not get a metal OE one

It is, assuming its the box that it was returned in. They are exchange (£25 surcharge).

seen a few like this. However I changed mine a few weeks back when I did the cambelt, the water pump was like new and I couldn't break it. Replaced with a new OEM plastic impeller unit.

Just took delivery of replacement pump with metal impeller, £30 from Euro Car Parts, 201440655. Just need to find somewhere that'll replace the cam belt without having my eyes out, been quoted £265 so far (including fitting the new pump).

Had mine done in work by my mate who is the motor vehicle department technician (I work in a college). It was in such a bad state when replaced that they kept it to show students what can happen to them.

I got a metal impeller one at Euro parts , but ended up fitting a skoda standard plastic one. The metal one i had looks really naff casting and overall not as well made.

Sorry but you are wrong, the pics do not prove that the std water pump is as much use as a chocolate fire gaurd.

The damage in the pic's was caused by the tech when the pump was withdrawn from the engine block. The pump is tight to remove and the clearance is small, if the pump is not removed carfully then thats what happens to the impellor.

Your car would have had major cooling issues with an impellor that badly damaged.

I was driving about 60mph when the water pump broke on mine, all of a sudden the temp guage jumped to the red, had big red warning light and a beeping noise, then smoke from the engine. I call that major cooling issues !

The impellor's still on it which is a good start!
