Dare i ask this question about Tyres??

Featured Replies

Well as the title states, if i don't ask then i'm not going to know?As you guessed it my question is which would be the best tyres for my VRS Estate? They are 225/40/18I have no idea which to get and have no prefference really, other than i am after the best tyre for grip? if that's not a silly comment?I can only say that i have a heavy foot on the accelerator.Don't even know what anything about speed ratting etc so i thought it best to ask.Any advice would be gladly appreciated. Thanks

christ thats a can of worms you'll open with that.

if you want outright grip I can vouch that the toyo R888s were ridiculous for outright grip. not tried them in the wet though

or these:-

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta

or these:-

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric

just be blunt and tell me what your using?

my vote goes to the Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas; excellent grip dry and wet, mid priced although only average life for mileage.

Yes R888s grip well in the dry (when they get nicely warmed up) as they are a 'track day tyre' but because of this are poor in the wet. They are also frighteningly expensive; even more costly than Michelins.

Falken 452, the vred's above or if you want an all season the vred quatrac or nokian all weather plus.

Goodyear Eagle F1 gsd3

Now my current tyres are 225/40/18, should i stick with the same size if i buy the Vredestein's or can i go up to 235/40/18 ????

 Stick with the correct tire size for the car.

Vredesteins get my vote, although I must admit their prices have been creeping up a bit lately.

I would stick to the same size.

Thanks for that, will stick with the same size

The "Which" magazine have a tire test report out this month and they go for the Continental Premium Contact 2.

the 452's were good in the snow.

If you are thinking of tyres for a vRS then you ought to be on Continental Sport Contact 3, not Premium Contact (they're for ordinary cars).

All I was pointing to was the brand, Continental, and they found Bridgestone also came out well.

Me I run Falken, but I only do moderate driving nowadays, but I found the OEM Dunlops crap, nothing new there then they have been for years.

Always used Yokohama's on my previous cars, so thought I'd give some a go on my vRS when I changed my fronts last month - now running the standard Continentals on the back and Yokohama Advan Sport v103's on the front - early days yet but I'm extremely happy with them so far

Vredestien Sportrac 3's here but they are on a 140TDi 4x4 Estate

Toyo Proxes T1-R.

Had Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics put on the front 4 weeks ago. SO much better than the original Michelins. No more second gear wheelspin!

However, choose your budget and read the reviews.

Another vote for the Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics, had them on the R32 and were superb now got them all round on the VRS and what a difference over the Dunlops.
