Front component speakers on the way.

Coilovers on the way from Belgium.

Main jobs to do now.

Seal the exhaust to the manifold and clamp it up.

Replace front discs.

Replace rear discs, pads and wheel bearings.

Fit mk4 golf rear calipers and braided conversion hoses.

Fit coilovers and set up height.

Bolt up drive shafts.

Fit magnex back box.

Check fifth injector fuction.

Modify drivers side rear light for fog light.

Set up brake pedal for brake lightswitch.

Replace windscreen

Then hopefully get an mot on it.

Plenty of little jobs to do but not needed for mot.

Got cracking this morning.

Suspension fitted on the front and new discs on the front.

Looks a bit lower now with 30mm left on the threads.

Also got a new driver lol.

Hopefully get started on the back tomorrow.

I've spent the weekend browsing for wooden workshops to compliment the garage at the house I'm looking at. Once we're moved in the Golf is coming off the road!

Is that white single stage paint or does it have a lacquer?

Single stage as it left the factory. Took me long enough to do this never mind painting it again lol. Paint has not had a good polish yet so with having no lacquer the paint will get better once i have done it a couple of times.

Got started on the back but had to work around the rain.

Rear disc's and bearings fitted along with mk4 rear calipers and goodridge braided mk4 conversion hoses.

Will need to raise the back a bit as it's almost sitting on the tyres.

Also covered the back of the rear seat to tidy it up a bit as the panel gets damaged.

I'd be happy to do most bodywork but I think I'm gonna need a pro job on the top coat for mine.

Removed it all myself as it's not bonded in.

Easy to remove and fit once you have done it a couple of times.

Well the engine is now back in bits.

Started to run a bit rough then would not start. Found not compression on cylinders 2 and 3. Removed the cams and retested. Both 2 and 3 now at 7 bar. compared with 1 and 4's 12 bar.

After removing the head 1 valve on cylinders 2 and 3 were everso slightly open. Stripped the head to find both the offending valves both had cracked collets which had forced themselves up and on top of the valves. Will stripp the head now and replace all the collets.

Found the problem in the end but what a pain in the arse as now have to drop the coolant and oil again then replace the head gasket as well.

Had Shaun (vw tech i know) to take a look at my head over the week but he was stuck for answers why the collets had moved. He replaced the collets anyway and got the head back on friday.

At 1:30pm it was rebuild time Number 2 :'(

All went back together with no real problems just putting the cambelt back on was a pain trying to align everything with the car being so low.

Started first time though and runs on it's own

Will have to drop all the coolant and oil just to be on the safe side.

Managed to drive it out to the front and clean all the ash off it. All clean and waxed now.

Brakes this afternoon and raise the rear coilovers.

At least now most of the mechanical stuff is sorted.

Still need to do,

Adjust hand brake.

Bleed and bleed the brakes.

Modify the 4 branch to exhaust connection pipe.

New exhaust but old one will hold up for now.

Modify drivers side rear light for foglight.

Timing and emissions.

Replace windscreen.

Adjust suspension.

Fit new steering wheel when it turns up.

Tracking and camber check.

Check clearance on modified corrado PAS pipes.

Then it's mot time :no:

Then on to the interior and audio.

Not got a lot done this weekend but progress non the less.

Run up to temperature to make sure everything is ok. Rad fan tested ok.

Setup tickover and now starts a lot better.

Electric sunroof adjusted and works spot on.

Went to bleed brakes again and got a lot of air out but got a pedal now.

Handbrake all adjusted ok.

Suspension raised 15mm all round as it had settled.

Had to work on the daily as the exhaust downpipe had split.

Removed the entire exhaust and fitted replacement downpipe.

Also fitted the magnex back box while i had the exhaust off. Just need to adjust the hangers and replace a couple of rubbers to get it to sit correctly.

Gave it a good clean and wax. Looks a lot better for it.

Still need to knock out the big dent in the rear valance though.

Hey I know that car (the white K-plate 16v that is)!

I remember it throughout the mid-90s. It used to belong to the owner of a business at the top of Denton's Green Lane in St.Helens and I'd drive past it on my way to work at Pilkington in my mum's Lemongelb Mk1 Golf.

Have to say that Golf was 100% the inspiration behind me buying a string of Golf GTIs starting with an F-plate 8v in '95, follower by a J-plate 8v in '97 and again a J-plate 8v in 2002. Shame I never quite plucked up the courage to put a note under the windscreen wiper asking if it was for sale ...

Having said that, I'd have never found the time, skill or patience to do what you've done to it though. An absolutely stellar job there dude!
