My best mate works in the parts department for a VW dealer so he knows all the tricks to get the hard to find parts. There are a lot of parts on this 16v that are different than my old 16v even though it is the same engine code. Most of them are Corrado 2.0 16v 9A parts but unless you know that VW will tell you the parts are no longer available.

Not sure if i will get time to work on it this weekend as got to change the heater box on my mates T5 Transporter, which is a dash out :thumbdwn:

  • I've got just the thing you need for your engine, looks like your inlet manifold is a 50mm jobbie. In which case, how about this to bling up the engine? Smoothed and chrome plated, very nice, wa

Managed to fit my front engine mount bracket today but no pics.

A lot of swearing today doing the red stripe on the wheels. Managed to get these to do the line.

P1000987.jpg

Fits perfect in the wheel but what an **** to get the level right.

Practiced by doing a fill coat on one of the other wheels.

P1000986.jpg

Went for it on the original wheel to finish it off. Gambled and did not mask the wheel but looks good enough.

P1000985.jpg

Close up of the paint. Not perfect but very hard to do this way.

P1000984.jpg

Should hopefully get the second wheel finished next weekend.

Looks good :)

Spent most if today removing the loom for the electric sunroof as the switch it comes with does not match the dash as well as it could.

Managed to find a switch that is a direct match to my electric window switchs out of a Polo open air which had a electric fabric roof. Made a new loom and fitted switch. Looks like factory now.

P1000990.jpg

Cleaned up my radiator cowling and painted. Rad fan motor painted and fan cleaned up.

P1000988.jpg

Got a reproduction warning sticker put back on as well.

P1000989.jpg

Alternator mount is all cleaned up and ready for paint.

Wheels all off now to finish the red stripe. Wings and bonnet at the unit ready to start on. Hopefully get car back at the unit in a week or two to start on the paint job.

Utterly awesome job on the wheels - don't sell yourself short mate, they look stunning!!!!!

Test fitted rear G60 arch. New mounting holes done and marked up the arch for cutting so wheels will go under lol.

P1000992.jpg

Just about fits under the arch but plenty to trim before coilovers go on.

P1000993.jpg

Second coat of paint on alternator and PAS bracket.

P1000994.jpg

Sunroof is now all removed just needs to be stripped.

Just need to fit and modify passenger side G60 arch and then it's ready for a bit of prep for paint.

Looking good still. Keep it up.

Woohoo for progress :D

Nearly there now!

Nearly there now!

Both back arch's ready for the grinder now lol. Sunroof all stripped and at the unit.

Paint and primer all ordered now. Should be back in the unit at the weekend.

Still got a lot of bits to order before it's back on the road though. Not got a lot of time off over christmas so will see what i can get done.

Just spent the last 45 mins going through this thread, some amount of work and time gone into this project.

The attention to detail is unbelivable, fair play to you

Looks like it will be a tight sqeeze to get it out the driveway with the wide wheels :D

Wow still gorgeous.

Just about fits under the arch but plenty to trim before coilovers go on.

Perfect, looks great and with the colis I am sure it will sit even better.............what coils have you sourced and what's the likely drop?

Thinking of going for Gaz coilovers with damping adjustment. Couple of lads use them in the mk2 race series and have good reviews on them. Not sure how low i can go but the coilovers should go around 40mm more than it is now which is more than enough as the front splitter touch's my drive as it is.

Managed to get hold of the recovery truck today and now the golf is back at the unit for the rest of the body mods and paint. Quite fun drifting a 7.5 tonne truck in the snow :D

This afternoon i picked up another mk2 golf project :dull: . Been in a garage for 4 years and a bit of a state inside and out but for £120 could always sell it for parts. Got it back to the unit and had a look.

More bird crap than enough.

Battery is dead. Engine will turn over by hand but the started is dead. Should start once the starter is replaced.

you should feel really good inside now, another mk2 saved that 120 quid golf doesn't know how lucky it is that you have got hold of it,any plans for the beater then.......or is that a silly question?

If it was 3-door I might have had it off you!

It all seems to be coming together a treat. Well done :)

Not realy had much time to do anything due to work but ordering parts.

Goodridge braided rear conversion pipes to fit mk4 rear calipers to the mk2.

Mk4 rear brake pads.

MK4 rear calipers.

Alcantara to retrim the head liner.

Polished lower and upper inlet manifold with polished rocker cover.

Rear boot decal ordered without the holes for the rear wiper and washer.

Cleaned up throttle body but will need another as so much dirt came out.

Started to clean up the sunroof mech as some parts will need replacing due to old age and a bodged repair at some point.

May get some pics tomorrow as i have to tidy the garage so i can find things again lol.

Managed to get the doors and boot removed off the car at the unit. Roof and back preped for primer. Passenger side rear arch cut and folded.

Spent a bit of time on the inlet manifold and rocker cover. Got them half polished and need a lot of work.

Problem is they are textured and not smooth so need to be smoothed first.

P1010005.jpg

Sanded all of the lower sections to smooth them out and remove some of the scratch's

P1010006.jpg

P1010007.jpg

Quick polish of the lower section.

P1010008.jpg

Looks a lot better but still needs a lot of work.

Also quickly polished the upper section and rocker cover but they still need a lot of work.

P1010010.jpg

P1010009.jpg

Mmmmmm... shiny!

I'm liking the polishing matey!

Are you thinkin of painting the "DOHC and VW" letters? I think them painted in black would be quite suitable :)
