  • I've got just the thing you need for your engine, looks like your inlet manifold is a 50mm jobbie. In which case, how about this to bling up the engine? Smoothed and chrome plated, very nice, wa

Not long til you can drive it then!! :)emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I wish lol. Working in oxford for a month now and may get a weekend off but will not be getting much time now for the next 5 years due to work. Spent ages clearing out the garage at home and putting the engine back in so i could get the car in the garage out of the way.

Whats the long term plan for the car then?? Despite all the work, it deserves to be driven!!

Sell it to me. :)

I dont do long term plans as i dont keep them long enough

Still got loads of jobs to do and bits to sort out, inside and out but have to see what happens. Still want to build a super charger vr6 or R32 mk2 though.

Not touched the golf as not much time but did play with the daily.

Since i purchased it i found it came with a dealer fitted zender rear spoiler and 16v rear lights looking at the original bill of sale.

Lights were not a problem but the spoiler was rare and the boot was already drilled so i was going to replace the boot but ebay came up trumps.

Spent all day restoring the spoiler and re-making 2 of the 4 mounting points as it was 22 years old.

Bolted down in the old holes in the boot then the rest bonded on with a bit of tiger seal.

Looks better than the old grommets filling the holes. With it all the mounts done and cleaned up could easy double what i paid for it :)

I think it could do with some black paint dropped into the lettering on the inlet manifold.

It's on my long list of jobs.

Nearly there now but it's fighting me the last bit lol.

Outside it's almost done as got both sills boneded on.

P1010112.jpg

P1010113.jpg

Had to make a power steering hose to adapt the raddo pipes to fit the mk2.

Engine back together now. The ISV i polished does not work so had to put my nice rsty one on. Needed a new battery as well due to using a octavia started i needed a battery with a higher cranking amps.

Car now turns over but does not start. Seams to be only firing on cylinder 4 but coil is fine. Dizzy cap looks a bit corroded so ordered a new cap and rotor arm.

P1010115.jpg

Still got a couple of bits i need to paint.

It really is looking minty, and nice and complete!! Whats left on the to do list?

I hope you'll be getting a pukka photo shoot done when its complete, it certainly deserves it! Oh, then you can sell it to me :p

Very very nice!

Out of interest, how much did the paintwork cost?

AIUI he did the bodywork himself! Looks amazing mind.

Even top coat?

  • Author

Did the whole lot even top coat  . Happy with 95% of it just going to do a couple of small bits again.

Still have a long list of jobs to do but mostly interior now.

Got back from Oxford early so got a couple of bits done tonight.

Boot pop and relay installed. Fully working from my key now just needs tidying before i put interior panels back in.

Drivers side central locking motor all mounted and tested.

New reverse light switch installed and tested ok.

Sorted cables i need to cut into for central locking module to flash indicators.

Fuel pipes painted again but still need another coat.

New dizzy cap and rotor arm installed but still not starting.

Care to share the equipment you used? :)

Re not starting, what state is the metering head in. Are the injectors delivering fuel?

Maybe worth popping these out of the inlet manifold after cranking to see if they are

wet. Looks good nevertheless!

Just spent most of my dindins hour looking at this rebuild and reminded me of when i did mine

Its kinda giving me the nudge i need to keep the car and start working on it again.

Rather than getting another toy

Got what looks like a weak spark. Fueling is fine as all the plugs are covered in fuel when i looked at them after turning it over. Quite a common thing on 16v's.

Re earthed everything and all metering out ok. Tried the coil off the 8v and still the same. Could be the ignition amplifier.

Managed to get some other stuff done today though.

Used sound proofing paint on the doors.

P1010143.jpg

Made plastic menbrane and all done. Central locking motor all done along with speaker wires

P1010144.jpg

Passenger side all done as well.

P1010145.jpg

Painted inlet manifold.

P1010146.jpg

Pic of car now outside is somplete.

P1010147.jpg

Absolutely amazing.

Stunning!

Managed to get the golf running at last but needs the timing setting up.

Started to clean up the interior and put it back in the car.

Boot all cleaned and fitted.

P1010148.jpg

Sound proofed o/s rear quater and fitted trim panels

P1010152.jpg

Power cable run into place with remote on and 3 RCA's so i can hide amp in rear quater panel.

P1010149.jpg

Front all cleaned up and door pads fitted.

P1010151.jpg

P1010153.jpg

Got around fitting my eq only to find it will not turn on. Looks like it's got damp and all corroded. Another thing to buy lol.

Shame about the EQ, but its all good progress mate!! Can't be much more left to do surely?
