Alarm going off in the rain

Featured Replies

Got woken up by a car alarm early this morning. After about an hour of it going off and on SWMBO suggested it might be mine

To start with I couldn't get the damn thing to go off. Opening and locking the car made no difference. I went off itself after a minute then I could lock the car with the alarm off.

It's never done this before. It never even went off when the cats jumped on the car.

All the doors were closed properly as were the windows.

Just a one off or is this worth a visit to the stealers? Car is under warranty.

Moth or something flying around the interior setting off the motion detector ? On mine I can disable the motion sensor with the button on the inside of the B pillar (behind the seatbelt), so the alarm is still active.

Had problems with mine going off, when it was only a matter of months old, and turning the internal sensors off made no difference, ended up having to leave it unlocked!!

Took it back to the dealers, and they confirmed that the interior sensors (just above the sun glasses holder/rear view mirror) had failed. Quick replacement and I was away, since then (touch wood) no problems.

So Id get them checked out, especially as its under warrenty still!

Same happened mine a couple of times, been fine since the internal motion sensor controller was changed.

Did you try locking it without the alarm activated at all ? (double click on the lock botton of the remote the way I've got my locking options set)

Went off again this morning at 4:50am :thumbdwn:

Wasn't raining, nothing I know of in the car. Wind, rain, cats have never set it off before.

Going to phone the dealer this morning.

Locking with the alarm off keeps it quiet.

Try locking without the interior motion sensor. There is a switch located down the B-pillar to switch it off.

So the car will be still guarded with the alarm.

Sometimes they try to let the alarm go off a couple of times until the owner switches it totally off. After that the can get in to the car.............

That did cross my mind but they'd have had to knick SWMBOs car too. Mine was up the drive first.

Lights weren't flashing last night just the siren. It's going in on Tuesday to get a quick look over.

If it is just the siren, can it be that there is a worn cable somewhere? Do you have marters in your vicinity? In Germany these little ******** cause a lot of automobile troubles. From small electricity wires to holes in turbohoses.

Someone in Germany had his troubles with his new octi. Alarm going off all the time, even during a ride. They had to exchange some wires that were dammaged during the built of the car.

With my previous car (VW Golf) nearly all false alarms were caused by the car battery being at the end of its lifetime.

Weeeell. All I can say is that at 4:30am with SWMBO shouting to me to get it sorted it wisnae my fault.

Went off again on Saturday at 4:30. I'm confused because I locked the car switching the alarm off. Locking and unlocking it did nothing. So I stamp outside get in the car and start it. The frikin alarm is still going.

I'm starting to panic now, images of the neighbours coming after me with a length of rope are in my head. So I'm starting to think about disconnecting the battery. I pop the bonnet and go outside. Get to the front of the car and ,waking up that last 10%, realise it's not my f**king car! It's SWMBO's. After her shouting at me to "get your f**king alarm off" it never occurred that it might be her skip/ Tigra.

An irritating coincidence was that her alarm was stopping while I was frantically locking and unlocking my car.

So it goes down to the Vauxhall stealer and they take £30 to disconnect the siren, you can't switch off the alarm. There is a 'pane break' fault on one of the windows so the car randomly thinks it has a broken window. Now the alarm will still go off but we'll just get flashing lights.

So Saturday night comes and we're dreaming of a night of unbroken sleep. 6:30 am and the friggin alarm goes off. I'm very confused now, SWMBO's alarm is in a bag in the passenger footwell and mine isn't at fault any more. I'm blipping both keys at the window, no effect. I head out with every intention of blowing up the responsible motor.

Standing outside waking up that last 10% again I realise it's not my cars it's the feckin burglar alarm on the factory across the road

I'm going to go to sleep under my desk now.

Bugger ! It is difficult to get your brain to function properly when you are still partially asleep ;)

I personally think audible alarms are the work of the devil - everyone ignores them and just curses the dammned noise. Be honest, how many of your neighbours came out to investigate and see off the "thieves" who were "stealing" your cars (or stuff from the factory across the road) ?
