Project "This is staying standard" - My Fabia

Featured Replies

Hey guys, Been into my VW's for awhile now. But since this is my first "Shhh-oda " i thought id post up a little build thread as i dont know anyone here! I sold my MK4 Golf GTi Turbo the back end of last year. Id lost my job, had a new job lined up with the biggest speed bumps in the world and decided rather then raising my Golf, to sell and buy something sensible - What a mistake that turned out to be! :( Heres a pic or two of said Golf:

So that went and along came my sensible, not getting modified Fabia vRS:

It stayed like that for awhile . . . But the more i resisted and watch other cars develop, the more i wanted to get started on the Fabia. I thought id start small . . . A splitter or something. Something that'd keep the motor standard, but make me feel like im doing something. I then thought "f**k it" and went for a seat Surgeons retrim:

Trim002.jpg

I then started to have a mooch for a set of wheels. Thought about LM's and TT comps but then came across a set of OZ Volcanos and thought they were different. They're certainly rare since i havent been able to come across another set on ebay since! Paid out for a refurb and had them finished in anthracite:

ozvolcanosforsale.jpg

The Volcanos then paid there way as a fixture in my living room - Simply because i was too lazy to sort tires out. I was then two weekends ago going to get some tires and put some effort in swapping eight wheels about. I decided freshening up the front would be easier and alot less effort. So on went a Leon Cupra R splitter and some black fogs:

I then got bored of walking into wheels in the living room, thought it'd be best if i put them on the car and chuck the vRS alloys in the shed. Ordered some decent rubber, went for some Maxxis MAV1's after reading afew decent reviews. Got them in and built up and went to pick them up today. Swapped the front two over without problems but couldnt get the rears off. A quick trip to a mechanic friend on odd alloys later they were sorted:

And that takes me right up to today with the Fabia! Ive just bought afew bits of here, nothing major - Alloys engine caps off Wardy and some handles for colour coding of Bodie. So they should be happening this week too.

Just realised thats abit of a read . . . Hope it helps kill abit of time for you bored people looking at my "staying standard" Fabia vRS!

Cheers for the comments guys! Always nice to know the mods you do are liked . . . Makes you wanna do some more!

Will your exactly right . . . this is standard still! And its staying standard - Just because im sensible like that! ;)

My vRS wheels are just sat in the shed now! One of them caught a curb on a fast wet corner when i bought it . . . Wouldnt have happened in my Golf. "Under steer" . . . that'd be an understatement! Note to self - "Mods to improve handling - IMPORTANT" haha! I had planned on replacing and selling them as a set. Guess id sell as they are if the price was right fella!

The bolf was very nice :D look forward to seeing your progress on the fabia

Golf is very nice!

Dude, you sold that Bolf to get a Fabia !!! You on some hardcore A class or something?

I like what youve done to the Fabia, but i LOVE the Golf/Bora.

Dave

You got PM Dave

Loving the retrim by the way.. only just saw the pics of that!

Thanks mate . . . Im on suicide watch for selling my Golf and regretting it! I think you might have just pushed me over the edge!

Seriously though, it wasnt black and white like that! Although i should have just not been a d**khead and raised it and lived with it till i got myself sorted again. Redundancy is NOT fun! It kinda forced my hand really! :(

They wheels so suit the design of the Fabia - Top marks on originality!

Top job on the Furby and as for the Bolf............SSSSEEEEXXXXXXXX WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Not too keen on the wheels though i'm afraid, but individuallity is the key ;)

(lower it with the rims in the arches......then i might change my mind  :P :);))

...Redundancy is NOT...

Not ment to push you over the edge. I realised that might not be the best thing to post (not wanting to upset).

I often regret car stuff.

I had a proper Mini for 2 years, and rebuilt it all myself. It would go like stink, and would go on two wheels before sliding!!

Till one night..

Driving to my mrs's house, along a big straight, followed by a slow bend (in deepest Wiltshire).

Tanking it along, and usually go into the bend at 80. Which is what I did on said night.

Just this night was not the night to do this, as the farmer had come out of his field on the outside of the bend, and had covered the road is s#it. I got the mini to about 65 before I hit the ditch square on! It twisted the shell bad and nothing was recoverable!

I regret going into that bend at such a speed. but luckly walked out.

I phoned the police, and they didnt give a s#it about me! They didnt say "are you ok" or anything, they just said "have you damaged the farmers hedge" ! ! ! !

Sounds daft, but ive suffered with alittle depression and flashbacks since. It was 3 years ago.

And redundancy is rubbish. I feel for you.

Lofty - Thats one harsh story mate! Main thing is your alive to tell the tale!

I was joking bout the suicide watch . . . But i bloody do regret selling! *weeps* :(

The lower will come . . . But last! Since lowness was a factor in selling the golf!

Redundancy does suck . . . And it looks like it could happen again for me! :(

Hey hey! Like the thread so far and like your style with the storyboard as you move along - keep it up :cool:

Look forward to seeing it tomorrow mate. I'm not too taken with the wheels at the moment, but agree with the above - think it might need lowering for them to properly fit in. But I don't want you to get stuck at work with a slammed coilover setup! :P

I'll see if I've got any other bits and pieces knocking about that I might have forgotten about and see if you want anything else...

Wardy - Any pieces, bring em with you! Could be a mini car boot sale (just for Fabia bits).

My next big expenditure unfortunately no one will see. I had planned on a double din DVD and maybe a cheap bit of sound but noooooo . . . instead its going to be; Full service, cam belt & full new breaks all round! Could have got a nice AV setup for the price Skoda wanted for that little lot! Too bad. :grumpy:

Ive really over spent this month, not the car - but just in general. I could do with a quiet month money wise to see myself straight. Mods this month could be limited to colour coded handles and de side stripping! But we'll see! :worried:

when i bought my fabia, it was staying standard too :D

looking good so far and your old look golf looks awesome!

Looks good mate, love the re-trim!!

Powder blue leather i think i could live with; but powder blue tartan head lining

Looks mint though; u must of been sad to see it leave.

Fabia looks good and the wheels set it apar from the crowd.

I had a set of OZ volcanos on a 52 plate Punto but they were removed rather swiftly as they didn't really fit

Lookin' good tonight - a clean, tidy example

Steve

If you must know it was "peppermint green" leather! :P

Oh and the Tartan - was just black and white! Might have been abit Marmite on the pics, But no one disliked it when they were in the car! Been thinking about doing something similar on the Fab, but i dont think it'll work like it did on the Golf!

Anyways - Next two mods purchased! Just met Mr Wardy (Top geezer BTW) in a shady car park. Got myself some Chrome engine caps and a "non smokers pack" (Yes, i just made that name up ) Dash piece! They'll be going on tomorrow once the cars back from its Serivce, Cam belt change and break fitting session.

You've enjoyed your Golf and sold it. Now enjoy your VRS, it's a great car, just make it your own.

Love the retrim in your Fabia , IMHO that what the seats should have been like from the factory!! That Bolf looked ace tho , especially in White!

That Golf is sexual

Cheers for the comments - keep em coming!

Just picked up my Fabia from its service, cam belt change and full brakes. Is it normal for the fans to sound different? Cost a little packet - which could have paid for afew mods . . . But i guess needs must if i wanna retain the cars value

53 Fabia vRS, 51k serviced, Cambelt, brakes, decent rubber all 2miles ago. Tasteful mods - for sale/swap for Octy2 vRS! Haha - After seeing Mr Wardy's very sexual Octy 2 i want one!

Anyways, next mod is done and dusted. Props to Wardy for hooking up the part. Possibly one of the most pointless mods i'll do . . . But saying that i dont smoke and i do drink! Its the apparently Czech dealer exclusive? Fabia "non smokers centre console"

nonsmokersdash.jpg

It'll prove useful (its a drinks holder) . . . more useful then an ashtray to non smoker anyways . . . Even if it doesnt look as good!

Golf looked amazing.

Nice "standard" fabia too.
