Seat surgeons never fail to impress me - must have! How much did the re-trim set you back?

  • Author

Got the seats for a good price of Cav!

The next mod's well on its way. Picked up a set of handles of Bodie last week. They've had a going over with wet and dry, some paint and lacquer . . . The final coat for the front handles is just dying now! One slight problem is my Akita puppy got a grip of one for the rear . . . Its not fit for anything now! I'll get round it once i take the standard front handles off . . . Just makes this a two part job!:mad:

sorry not so keen on the wheels. why have you black surrounds near the fogs?

  • Author

Not so keen on the wheels myself if im being honest Mike! But they're different and i like that. I think slamming it might make them work . . . we'll see! :worried:

Why do i have black fog surrounds . . . why not? ;)

So its a lovely day, nothing to do. Thought id make myself useful and de rub strip the car.

Must have took the whole of 30 seconds using some box strapping. So i whip them off, clean off the s**te that lies beneath to find . . .

yes thats right . . . BUBBLES! And lots of them!

Now its going to have to go in the shop to (i assume) have four doors resprayed. Just what i need, everything always go smoothly for me . . . cry cry etc haha! Seriously though, its one bill i could do without right now!

De rub stripping = :thumbdwn:

Go to skoda, buy new strips for £24 i think they cost be, colour code them and fire them on. Stops the dings and in your case covers the bubbles! Much Better than painting doors!

  • Author

The original strips will go back on!

The rub strips look poor - It'll just have to go in the shop!

I nearly took mine off yesterday after a few hours cleaning, polishing, etc, However SWMBO said "I think they look better on"...

I would take them off if I knew the paint behind was sound as I fancy getting the door handles and wing mirror trim colour coded silver!

  • Author

Blackcat - If you take them off and find knackered paint, they'll go straight back on with no damage! ;)

Ive half colour coded a set of handles. I think destripped and colour coded handles just makes it look more, well, call it what you want. I think it looks better. Never been a fan of colour coding the mirror base . . . Dunno why, always thought of it as looking abit "asda carpark"!

typo's!

wouldnt the bubbles be covered on your antirust warrenty?

wouldnt the bubbles be covered on your antirust warrenty?

Should be but technically your modyfying the car by removing the strips? Id just colour code them, look good colour coded and saves you getting dents. I prefer the looks with them but thats just personal preference.

i took mine off as soon as i bought the car new as i didnt like the look of them, looks much cleaner lines now i think

Not been well - So not a great deal been going on here!

Still awaiting bits in the post! :( The doors need respraying! :mad: And ive half a set of colour coded handles sat there waiting for me to fit them! :worried: With all that said, things arent going to well at the minute . . . But atleast ive finally been able to finish the wheels! They've been missing their centre caps, well look what turned up in the post today;

Getting back on track!

You gonna take the paint issue up with Skoda? In answering 'why did you take the strips off?' you could say that you thought you could see what you thought to be paint bubbling and you removed them to check :)

Apparently Skoda paint warranty is only three years? So no point Wardy! :(

Hmmm, that's a shame. This is how's it worded:

"Paint and Body Warranty

All new vehicles supplied by ŠkodaAuto are provided with a three year unlimited mileage warranty against defects in the paintwork. Any manufacturing defect in the paint finish or application should be reported to an appointed Škoda retailer or Authorised repairer where it will be rectified at no cost. In addition ŠkodaAuto are pleased to provide an anti-perforation warranty for a minimum of 10 years (please refer to your owners manual for specific details). This offers assurance that any defect in the corrosion protection applied to body panels, that results in perforation corrosion is rectified at no cost."

Wonder how they define 'perforation corrosion' ? It's a bit poor to have something like that occur on a car of that age....

A mate of mine works for Skoda, said he'll have a word with one of the guys there and see if they'll entertain correcting this.

If not, guess im gonna have to put my hand in my pocket! Must admit - that'd kill of Skoda's chances of me buying an Octy2 when ive finished playing with this Fabia! :(

Anyways, next mod is done and dusted. Props to Wardy for hooking up the part. Possibly one of the most pointless mods i'll do . . . But saying that i dont smoke and i do drink! Its the apparently Czech dealer exclusive? Fabia "non smokers centre console"

nonsmokersdash.jpg

It'll prove useful (its a drinks holder) . . . more useful then an ashtray to non smoker anyways . . . Even if it doesnt look as good!

Whats the part number?

  • Author

I dont know . . . its already fitted!

Wardy sold it to me, maybe he has the part number wrote down?

Will see if I have a note of it and you can see if it's available in the UK John. At the time I don't think it was, nor offered as an option to UK buyers. Not sure why they'd not offer a 'non smokers' pack really.

EDIT: Think its 6Y086326747H

Update with part number

That is very cool but I'm not sure I could lose my loose change storage area :D

You can still put change in there, and it'll stay in place unless you favour vertical take-off :D

You also gain another spot for a drinks bottle

If you look deeper into the corrosion warranty I seem to remember it only covers rust/perforation from the inside out. Does not cover surface rust or paint bubbling.

No - I didnt expect Skoda to do it! I may go a bodyshop this weekend and get a price. I need my rear bumper repairing and respraying anyways! :worried:
