Have I been ripped off? - Michelin Pilot Sport 2 Tyres

Featured Replies

I took my three year old Mark II Octavia vRS in for its first M.O.T. yesterday. I've not had much time to keep an eye on my car in recent weeks but noticed that my front tyres were desperately worn out and that I'd need replacements - there was a cut revealing the cords on one of them!:thumbdwn:

Given the limited amount of time I chased around for the current Michelin Pilot Sport 2 (225/40/R18) that I've been happy with but not many places seem to sell them any more. Apparently they are phasing out production of them soon and as such, prices are high. In order to pass the M.O.T. I got them replaced but the cost came to £160 +VAT for each tyre including fitting and balancing etc! This seems much more expensive than when I bought four new tyres last May at around £160 inc. VAT each.

Have I been ripped off or have these tyres really gone up in price by £25 since last year? I think I'll have to go for the standard Continental Contact Sport 3's next time.

£150 on black circles inc vat and fitting ....but they are a very expensive tyre to start with

Tyre prices are going up by loads, they have been increasing steadily for a while now.

Yup; tyre prices are definitely up 10-15% over the last year.

Fricking expensive tyres. So glad the lease co has to worry about our 17" Pilot Primacy's

I put Kumho's on my last Octy at £70 each inc fitting per corner.

Kumho what's? Sounds expensive for a budget tyre

Crickey I pay £58 a corner inc balance and fitting.

I paid £115 a corner for Pirelli P-Zero Rosso,s for the 18"s

and I've just paid exactly the same for Conti Sport Contact 3's.

I would imagine they were the KU31's, I've just paid £60 per corner for SWMBOs fabia vrs for the Khumos

Last week I paid £214 fitted for 2 Goodyear F1 Aysymmetric.

And like you i'm glad to get rid of the dunlops. Once the surface was scrubbed off after about 100miles they are alredy a vast improvement over the Dunlops.

Kuhmo are not a budget tyre, more of a middle of the road with your Falkens etc.

Always worth remembering that Michelins are renowned for their longevity.

I paid £6.50 fitted per corner for my Ashol F1's. They are a load of........but hay, they were cheap and that's all that matters right.

95 quid a corner fitted for vredstein ultrac sessantas (18s) for my vRS

Michelin Pilot Sport 2 are very good. good choise!

That seams bl**dy expensive for 1 tyre. The previous to last time I paid for tyres I got 2 for £50. I must admit though they were made by Marshal and it's the only time I can say 12 inches is too small!!

In February I paid £55 (£115 for 2 inc. postage) + £10 fitting each for Toyo T1-R from Camskill on my Furby.

Did you try C&S in Middlesbrough ? I've always found them very good for tyres and they were £30.00/tyre cheaper for my son's Mitsubishi than he could find online.

I've just paid (actually SWMBO has just paid) £65.00 each for Dunlop Sport 200E tyres for Octy II TDI.

D

I swapped from dunlop sports on my sport fsi to michelin primacy hp's. Could'nt believe the difference in road noise. Would'nt ever buy dunlops again. At £109 a corner, bit more than i normaly spend...

Yes, I did, they wanted £77 for Toyos each. I tried M&M Tyres ("Over the border", near the train station) and they wanted £85 for Toyos but £73 for Goodyear F1 GSD3s. M&M tyres are the local dealer for Vredesteins.

The two Marshals I bought were 135 / 12 for an old Metro, and Fabia ones are 205/45/16.

You were robed. I get the same tyres for 2.75 and a packet on nik-naks.

AND they gave me a loyalty card for 10% off at the local koso-wash

You get nothing in this life for free, you've paid for all those freebies in some way. I go to my tyre place just for the abuse which is worth much more to me.
