Featured Replies

hi!guys,I am from China east coastal city .I'm currently running a skoda(octavia)What things have gone wrong with the car?Nothing has gone wrong so far. how about u ,guys!

Owned my 2002 vRS since March 2008 and had the following:

New gearbox bushes (done by dealer before I took delivery of the car)

New brake light switch (done under warranty)

New front anti roll bar and bushes

New cam cover gasket and breather pipe

New brake light bulb

New drivers door handle (done myself)

Service and brake fluid change

2 new front tyres

Sounds like a lot but no more than I'd expect in a year from a 100k plus car.

2002 VRS 38000 miles

New front anti roll bar bushes

New brake light bulb

4 new tyres

Hazard warning switch

Rear wheel bearing

V71aircon flap motor noisy (about to be replaced)

i fell a lot of road noise in the back from those tyres.but the dealer told me that is the common fault in China market ,how about your car??

Firstly my car - bought 3.5 years old, and had an alternator fail shortly afterwards on about 63_000 miles.

Tyre roar tends to be a question of make and size (and road surface but there's nothing you or the dealer can do about that). Changing tyre make can make quite a difference to how much tyre road you get from the same size.

i owned my car 1 & half year with 20000 km

ive had my 04 octy vrs for nearly a year now & ive replaced :- 1. both front wheel bearings. 2. both front tyres. 3. starter motor. 4. front & rear brake disc,s & pads. 5. one service too!. :) i wouldnt class numbers 2. & 4. & 5. as faults-their just wear & tear items in my opinion.

I didn't mention tyres, or brake pads and discs, cos they're wearing parts as you say.

the PARTS changed so far in 8 months on my 4x4 1.8T Octavia:

DV (replaced with a Forge 007 but original one was definately knackered)

Spark Plugs (Bosch Super Fours)

2 coil packs

Top and Bottom Breather Hoses (the Y and the other one as they had split and crumbled)

Small breather hose from the Inlet Manifold to the PCV valve (same as above - nice big holes)

Turbo to Pancake Pipe (upgraded to the revised one then decided to butcher the old one and did this mod solution with pics how to replace the crappy O ring connection on the upper IC pipe - uk-mkivs )

also replaced the rest of the crappy jubilee clips with T-Bolts - they rock!!!

replaced the Suction Jet Pump (what a PITA that was)

a couple of Throttle Body Gaskets (due to regular cleaning)

ToDo:

I still have leaky injector seals!!

still have 17705 :-(

bucking at part throttle - most noticable in 4th and 5th

Surging Boost

rattle in the sunroof?

Slightly o/t, but this is the first time I have ever seen Jubilee clips (NB, this is a trade name, and genuine Terry Jubilee clips are the best rubber/plastic pipe and hose clips on the market) described as c@rp!

If it doesn't say "Jubilee" on the clip, and doesn't have a slotted hex bolt head on the worm drive, it's not a Jubilee clip! Point taken?

I'v had my 2005 Octy VRS for just over 1 year, it has 116,000 miles on the clock and here's a list of things that have gone wrong since I owned it;

1. Front OS wheel bearing.

2. Battery.

Obviously I have had the cam belt done and kept up with regular servicing too but I dont count these as faults.

I currently have a boost/power issue but I think I may have solved this by simply changing fuel. :)

rattle in the sunroof?

I noticed this on mine the other day. Most noticable when the sunroof is slide back (glass open), it seem the fabric lower cover (thing) rattles a bit when in the headlining.

have a 55 plate vrs with 57k on the clock, have owned it for 6 months and done about 4k

parts that have gone wrong

radiator fan was squeeky so i replaced it

Gear linkages - wouldnt centre

other items that i wouldnt count are

front and rear discs, pads and fluids

cambelt, pump, tensioner etc etc

service

compared to my old stage 2 cupra this car has been so so cheap to maintain and a pleasure to drive

In addition to what others have said,

Front wiper spindles seize up.....can be avoided by a drop of oil every 6 months.

Octys also collect soil, dirt, leaves etc between the front wheel arch linner and the bottom of the inner wing/bulk head (even with front mud flaps fitted)....you dont need to remove the whole arch linner to clean out. Remove the mud flap if fitted and the bottom couple of screws and the linner comes loose enough to clean behind it.

Cleaned the N/S one on mine when I had the liner off to do the Turbo to Pan-cak pipe! loads of silt and leaves etc.

OOPS! Defacto standards again! just like run the Hoover over! when most people have Vacuum Cleaners (although they dont really use a vacuum either?)

Point taken Ken. well spotted
