Custom made Anti-roll bar

Featured Replies

Mate of mine and I were talking last night, and were discussing about my vRS.

Hes very good with making custom parts for cars etc, but said that hes willing to try and make an anti-roll bar for my car!

Are there any major reasons to why this could not be done? (I understand that the likes of Jabba and Whiteline have tested their bars etc) but i quite like having one off items! Not to mention the cost saving!

To be honest with something that effects handling as much as a rear anti roll bar does, I'd much rather spend the money and be sure that something isn't going to go horribly wrong.

Totally agree. I'm all for saving money, but not when it effects something as important as that, i'd just bite the bullet and pay out for the "tried and tested" solution.

How do you calculate the spring rate v car weight to make a one off RARB? Would probably invalidate your insurance unless you got it TUV approved for legal road use.

and if the calculations all go wrong, you'll end up being shiny side down.....

Sprung steel is very hard to bend ;) :rotz:

would it need to be TÜV approved for use in the UK?

I echo Luke's thoughts, you need to use sprung steel so the bar tries to retain its original shape by springing back against the twisting forces during cornering.

For this reason it's a right pain to bend sprung steel because it tries to push back against you and spring back to a straight bar.

If marketed yes. If a one off custom job, no, but insurance company would go ape if non approved parts fitted to a road car.

Tuners/race companies spend thousands on R&D to make sure mods are safe. I always dread the thought of meeting a pikey modified car coming in the opposite direction.

and it needs to be heat treated as well after it's bent..
