Replacement ARB bushes

Featured Replies

The only hard part of this job was to get the bush clamp close enough so that the bolt threads take. As others have said, a 25mm bolt can be used to get the bush compressed slightly, then undo the 25mm bolt and put in a 18 or 20mm bolt. The 25mm bolt is too long and hits a plate behind. A small G-clamp is also handy.

Yeah, this has confused me. vRS uses 19mm bar but I can't find a bush that includes a 19mm hole.

Lot's of chat about after market bushes but haven't been able to find the part number for an OE replacement.

Also, if you remove the plastic cover (as people seem to recommend) wouldn't you then want to use a bush with a 18mm hole in order to ensure it is a good fit?

Does anyone know the part number for VAG original bush that would be 17mm? Or is the only option to go with Polyurethane 17mm bush?

If you want one for the late type clamps with a 17mm hole they used to be a 1J0411314S, but think they have now been superseeded by 1J0411314AC

if u take the plastic sleaves off wont the bar move side to side in the bushes?

as the sleaves have stops at the ends to prevent this

Doesn't appear to. My ARB had the sleeves stripped off and new bushes fitted about 10,000 miles ago, and when I changed the drop links tonight it hadn't moved in the slightest.

There isn't really any lateral force on the bar, only vertical.

IF you have the plastic sleeve. Get a wheel off and see, most are just powder coated and the coting has come off and it rusted. Get superpro poly bushes and 2 new clamps (they are a later design that most of the oe ones, besides they are cheap and the originals are likely rusty) and I use stainless steel bolts, but you can get 2x original ones very cheap from Skoda. Measure the bar with calipers and get -1mm superpro poly ones, sand down the bar, clean it down and fit the new bushes with a liberal amount of copper grease.

Job done.

Greg.

PS use a torque wrench, the bolts to the lower wishbones strip real easy.

I've got the dreaded creaks when going over speed bumps etc. By the look of the other posts, I need to strip off the old bushes and clips, remove the plastic sleave, grease liberally and then fit the new bushes.

However, opinion seems to be divided on whether the new bushes need to have a narower gauge bore in order to fit on the arb once the plastic sleave has been replaced. These ones are available from a decent online retailer and are described as the 'new' type (18mm bore):

Anyone know if they are the right part number?

Hi Guys

Sorry I have pulled up an older thread

We are just becoming Super Pro agents , and I have been looking on here to see what peoples opinion`s are on these bushes

This was one issue that I have found and then passed on the concerns to them

They replied with some very clever information , so I asked if they could email me with some of it , so I can pass it on to you guys , the customer at the end of the day

I just hope that some of the comments will help you guys?

Sarah

.

All of the SuperPro polyurethane bush kits used on the various VAG applications use a Lithium based grease – the white grease mentioned in the previous posts.

1/. The SuperPro bushes are designed to work under high pressure – so the use of a grease is essential.

2/. The SuperPro grease supplied with our kits has been developed over many years with many tests of different alternatives and it is definately the best lubricant currently available for use with SuperPro’s polyurethane. It is not a cheap or ‘Crap’ grease – a 500g tub sells for over £20.00.

3/. The lithium grease is a mixture of a powder and a liquid. Sometimes this can be seen as it can separate in the packet, although it can be quickly mixed back together again before installation. The liquid element helps with installation, the important part is the dry powder element. The liquid will disappear once the bush has been installed – but the dry powder stays behind. This is ideal for the operation of the bush and is how it is designed to work. Dry traces of grease on the outside of the bush do not indicate that the dry powder retained inside is not doing its job or that the bush needs re-lubricating.

4/. If you were installing a set of SuperPro bushes and you did not have any grease available then the factory in Australia would recommend the use of a high pressure grease such as CV Grease or a Silicon based grease rather than nothing. As the SuperPro polyurethane material is not adversely effected by any mineral based materials then these would be OK – however they will not work as well as the White grease supplied with the kits. They would not recommend the use of Copper Grease if the white grease is available.

5/. Creaking Problems. Noise issues with SuperPro bushes once fitted are not caused by the bushing material itself but by ‘Foreign Matter’ trapped between the bush and the metal components. The most common cause of this is a failure to adequately clean the mating surfaces before installation. In this case if the bush is not worn then reassembly with grease having fully cleaned the mounting bracket and the outside of the bar should fix the problem.

I emailed the HQ in Aussie and they came back and recommended copper grease. Strange!

Absolute doddle to undo. They are only held by one nut to the arb. I think it was a 17mm spanner to hold it and 18mm socket to undo the bolt and swing it out of the way.

Some aftermarket ones like GSF are 19mm socket and 15mm spanner needed, if I recall.

HI Rob

Yes that is one that baffled me

We have been emailing in regards a few things and we had a bit of a training session with these guys

When I did my training with them , this issue I raised and they wanted to make sure that the correct info came about

So we have now got a response from the head guys there
