Great :D until you find out its only in Currys or PC-World :(

Ideally 40" dont mind squeezing a couple of inches in either side. I cant get on either from here, so your mission, should you choose to accept it, is suggest me a telly :P

christ....for £1000 you can buy a 50" Plasma ;)

Any particular connections you are after? Do you prefer LCD or Plasma? A few variables kicking about with this one!!

LCD, with a minimum of 2 HDMI and a USB ideally, no specific audio requirements other than the fact I will be adding a surround kit to it which isnt bought yet, I did have a samsung 40" LCD prior to it and I really did like it so was considering the LE40A656A, but to be honest I know very little about TV's

I would go bigger but SWMBO already thinks 40 is a bit vulgar

Shame you couldnt use it in Costco.

That'd buy you a lot of TV with 5yr warranty

I see that Sony TV's are offering a free 3 year warranty in currys and PC world at the moment, that could be a decider too

KDL40S550 looks ok.

Are you allowed to use PC World Business? They're generally a bit cheaper than the high street.

Same here SONY BRAVIA 1080p , brilliant picture / sound

About 2 weeks ago I took delivery of a Samsung 8 series 40 inch! BLOODY GREAT!

Speakers aren't that good on it, but the picture quality is AMAZING especially in HD. Just about every review I had read gives it very good ratings.

Model is LE40A856 and costs £960 on dixons at last check. Well worth considering. I wasn't allowed anything bigger than 40" so I went for the very best quality I could find!

it has 4 HDMI inputs and digital optical outputs for connecting to the surround sound unit you mentioned.

John Lewis, although a little more expensive than some, offer a 5 year warrenty on ALL tv's!

Wait a bit and see if they are going to get the Sony KDL-37W5500 in stock as that should be just on budget.

So you cant buy the TV in John Lewis then! But will they let you buy it from Dixons as they are the same as Currys and PC world?

Also check out the pixel policy for the seller before buying.

A mate just got one these Sony KDL-40W4500 review - whathifi.com

Nice tv :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Yeah, we have the 40W2000, I think. (Basically last year's model of the same TV) Loads of great features (and some frankly useless ones!), plenty of ports, etc. etc.

The only criticism I have compared to the 42" plasmas we had before (viz. posts on dead cells and screen burn) is that such a big LCD suffers quite badly from vignetting, which gets worse the brighter you have the screen...

If they will price match, try to get a Samsung LE40 A786. 40" LCD 100hz, Dynamic LED backlighting. RRP is around £1200. Cheapest I've seen it is £899 but it's scarce.

recently bought a Sansung LE40A55 and am very please with it. great picture, great looks, easy menu's. Sound on Sony's may be a wee bit better as the speakers are forward facing but irrelevant for me as I have it wired to surround sound kit.
