FabVRS didn't want to go.....

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

Whilst running at a fairly high sustained speed (nice and early on Saturday morning) my FabVRS was performing very well - as always.

However, as soon as I eased off and re-applied the throttle, there was no go!! It would maintain speed, but not accelerate at all!!!! The engine revved feely when de-clutched, but applying the throttle made no difference - no matter how far down the pedal was pushed - going down gears made no difference  :(

Eventually, through slowing down and not being able to accelerate again, I stopped the car, turned off the ignition and restarted it.

Perfect. As if nothing had been wrong??

Any ideas? Is there some kind of limiter built into the ECU for sustained full throttle?

Limp mode?

Limp mode?
:gay:

Did you ease off then floor it?

if you did, its entirely possible that you made it overboost and go into :gay: mode

Limp mode?

Shouldn't the CEL light been on with this?

In the 1.8t if you've hit the rev limit for more than a few seconds it will go into limp mode and cut the turbo. Will have an error code which will invalidate your warranty....unless you know someone with VAGCOM.

Thanks for your thoughts.

The pedal was to the metal for a while but we weren't on the limiter..... It was like a limp home but it would maintain any speed but it would not accelerate. With the clutch down it would rev freely...

limp, eh? That's how jokes start..

Its limp home for sure. Mine does this every once in a while, and clears if you switch off the ignition. Have never been able to trace the fault (and it did do it standard).

Just seems to be an odd querk, has happened four times int he last year id say so im not too concerned about it.

Similar to when my MAF issue surfaced, but that brought up a fault code.

this is normally caused by the actual boost exceeding the expected boost by too large a margin. the car goes into limp home mode and makes very little boost.

This strikes me as being very dangerous. If you pull out at a roundabout, or attempt a quick overtake and the car decides to limp, then you are in a very akward situation. I would not be happy with this at all.

It's less dangerous than having the engine stall (eg due to poor clutch use or the choke not operating correctly) or cut (eg due to fuel or ignition problems) in a 'tricky' situation. At least you do have some power to get the car out of trouble.

Thanks for the feedback, gang.

It sounds like my FabVRS just went a bit limp for a while. Switching off and on cured it so nothing major to worry about.

Somebody mentioned that it could also have been "too much cold air intake" at high speed... Not sure I believe that one, though...

Thanks again.

you need to get it pluged in to see the fault code. 99% it will be boost related
