VRS vs Arosa Project

BTW The Daihatsu Charade was fitted with a 1.0 TD from around 87 to 94

True, I was refering to our range though.

It's not hard to fettle a 1275 to stage 3 and strip it down. It's also not that hard to turbo one if you can get the bits.

having a look around 110b hp isn't very easy at all unless going forced induction and at this weight 20bhp means a lot.

Ahhhh, have you read "Tuning the A-series" by David Vizard?

It's all serious work in terms (Complete engine rebuild) but if you know what your doing and you have the kit it's not to hard. It's not too cheap though, a set of webbers has to bee £800+ new. My stage one with a ported unleaded head, motorstar ignition and a tweeked SU is putting out about 55bhp and that cost me £200 for the bits and a few sundays. Drums all round make it ......interesting :)

The easiest thing is the kit from a turbo Metro but they are like hens teeth these days

Looking around the Interweb, there doesn't seem to be much info (or love - LOL) for the 1.7SDI.

How similar is it to other engines in the VAG range? Is there any benefit to keeping it in an Arosa or a Lupo rather than transplanting a 1.9TDI unit (non-PD or otherwise...)

IMO it could be useful to run a VNT on a slightly smaller engine if it limits absolute torque but provides more boost higher up in the rev range.

All armchair wondering, haven't got a Lupo or an Arosa.

Mine is 1380cc normally aspirated and has 110bhp (at Minisport rolling road) and 100lbs ft torque. There is also no way you would be able to guess it was tuned on tick over as the cam is an SW5 so it sales through the MOT.

At the end of the day though a classic car is like a pet, it needs constant looking after, but touch wood my engine has given no problems after being in for 5 years and getting rinsed every time its out. It keeps up with modern traffic and surprises newer faster cars but is no way the fastest thing on the road. Its amazing the respect you get from faster car drivers when you keep up with them. They always say "What f**king engine is in that?"

I love the wifes arosa for its handling, feels like a go kart on its coilovers, its only a 1.0 so it aint fast but the mrs loves it regardless of its power,i reckon a remapped 1.4tdi could be fun plus its easier than doing an engine swap
