If this is what 15mm lowered looks like

Featured Replies

Then I want it for my Fabia Estate. It looks just right at this height to me, and I bet it would improve the rather large amount of lean one gets with the "raised" standard suspension. This comes from the back page of the Fabia Accessories brochure but there is no annotation to describe the model, spec or anything.

I suspect that the standard suspension is really designed for Czech and other Eastern Europe roads, and the "15mm lowered" suspension should really be standard for the UK - although having said that, the roads in Hertfordshire are very quickly becoming like those of an Eastern European country nowadays...

Here's a pic of the rear wheel arch of my Fabia Estate for comparison:

The picture you are showing in your post is probably a Skoda press photo, and therefore the car is quite lower than the ones they sell you and I... They do this to make the car look better - because a stock Fabia looks as if its on stilts..

I've seen several Skoda press photos, and they all have the "right" hight compared to the real ones.

my fabia has the 15mm lowered susupension, and it dont look as low as the estate, looks more like a 30mm drop in my eyes pal.

That's what I suspected, but I had (probably mistakenly) thought that it was unlikely that they would show a car in a Skoda brochure that was not produced using standard Skoda parts!

Could you possibly post a picture of the side of the car so that I can compare?

It's only £90 extra in in the brochure. Do 15mm lowered springs make a much difference?

Well the standard suspension is very roly-poly, so there is a lot of improving to do. I would definitely go for it if I had the option as it should help some - even 15mm is quite significant in C of G terms. Depending on the way the suspension geometry works 15mm could make quite a difference. In addition it should help somewhat in aerodynamic terms to improve fuel economy - that's the reason they give for making it standard on the Greenline models.

Heres ours.

Not that low either:

I suspect it is the higher ratio gearbox that improves the fuel consumption more than lowered suspension.

the original pic is 35mm

Probably, although aerodynamics is quite significant in terms of the energy required to push the car along. Altering the gearing will enable the engine to run more slowly which should also contribute to reducing the fuel consumption by reducing friction losses. Without knowing more detail it is hard to say which factor will be most significant, although I certainly agree that the gearing will have a significant effect as well.

Very interesting. Presumably the rate of the springs must be quite a bit stronger otherwise there would be problems with the suspension bottoming out when the car is carrying a load. I wonder what this does for the ride, and also whether the dampers need to be uprated to increase particularly the rebound damping (much more force in the springs when they are compressed)?

Guys,

I tried to order the 15mm lowered 'sports suspension' on my Fabia 3 Estate and its a no go, so I'll just have to take sea sickness tablets before throwing it around too much !

go for eibach set mate, much lower stance as well anything up to 40mm couple of people on here have it.

Don't know what the ride is like with the 15mm dropped springs but in my opinion Skoda UK should make it standard across the range (as they have done with the Sport) A little lower suspension and 16in wheels really transform the looks of the Fabia, which gives me hope for the forthcoming RS :)

The 1.2 12v on the 1 and 2 trim does not come with 15mm lowered springs as standard but has the same fuel comsumption, according to the brochure, as the 1.2 sport which is lowered. Also sport has wider tyres (205 compared to 195 in the 1 and 2 trim) which in theory should make it less fuel consumption?

You can get 30mill lowering springs for the fabia

But i dont know if that would look too low but its something im going to find out when i come around to buying them

It could be that the two pretty much cancel each other out so the figure ends up the same. Also I can quite believe that Skoda would not bother to do new tests on the Sport model because of the cost, so I wouldn't read too much into the fact that the figures are the same. All other things being equal it is certainly the case that lowering a car does improve its fuel economy.

Mine is lowered with Eibach springs. You can see pictures of it in my "for sale advertisement" here: Skoda Fabia 1,9 TDI Sport. Norges fineste? 2008, 32000 km., kr.

The wheels are 17" Kentaurs.

Thanks very much for that link - very useful. How much lowered is your car?

No offence, but your car is much too low for me, particularly at the rear - it really looks like it's been lowered rather than just looking "right". I'm looking for some springs which improve the handling and don't make the car look like it's been interfered with. I know this is an area of personal taste, but I don't want something that looks at all "boy racer", or "car-obsessed" to put it another way!

No problem :-) I Find the stance just right, and the handling is much improved compared with the standard springs. I think the Eibach kit is supposed to lower the car -30 mm. The car is not lower than an Audi with factory sports suspension, and it works great even on snow covered roads in the winter. Hope you find the right springs/height for your car :-)

Is the work involved, really worth lowering 30m/m- less than one and a quarter inch, just over the width of my thumb.???

Each to his own thoughts about that one, but find that some speed bumps with standard suspension a cautious manoeuvre, and have made contact !! at a very low speed.
