Which Octy Mk1??

Featured Replies

I'm gonna trade in my S-reg GLX TDI and have narrowed it down to 2 options:

2004 04 Reg SKODA Octavia 1.9 TDi PD Laurin + Klement 97,000 miles

2004 04 Reg SKODA Octavia 1.9 TDi Elegance 78,000 miles

Both cars are the same price and have full service history.

Which one would you choose and why?

My head is saying one thing but my heart says another....

If you are interested they are both on a well known 2nd hand car website and are in the Bolton vicinity.

Cheers

mmm

Id go for the L & K as its the top model.

also i think the 1.9 pd is a better engine then the norm tdi??? not sure though.

it would also depend on the colour, the condition. also what they drive like.

good luck mate

thanks billy.

I'm presuming that cos its a 2004 the elegance is a PD as well. I'm just worried about the mileage that the L & K has.

cheers

they are diesel mate. that is not much really.

I'd not worry about the mileage on either of them.

Check the body condition and service history. Have a look and decide whether you like the "leather stretched over everything" look or not. Also take note the L&K might have the 130PD engine and 6-speed box.

According to the blurb the L&K is a 130Pd with the 6speed box. thats why my heart is going for it. :-)

I'm also liking the leather idea because I have a 2yr old son!

cheers. I'll make sure I give the service history a good going over.

Whats the cam/timing belt interval on the PD engines?

thanks again

James

Go for the one with cow everywhere i say ;)

PD all the way I reckon. I drove a few of these, along with the previous generation TDis, when I was looking to buy my Octy - ended up going for a vRS on 21k over a PD130 on 70k, still regret it sometimes when I've gotten into PD engined cars on well over 100k and seen how well the engine wears the miles. Drive them both if you can, the wave of torque in the PD has to be experienced first hand! Maybe not much use from a petrol Octy owner, I'm sure the derv burners on here will have more useful advice, but my brother went from Octy TDi to PD and hasn't looked back since... Just my 2p worth :)

No problem mate. I've seen an L&K110, and didn't like the leather because it's really obvious it's leather stretched over an Elegance interior pretty much everywhere but the seats which have been retrimmed properly. I also wasn't keen on the dull 7-spoke alloys.

The PD130 and 6-speed would be tempting though, and more so if you could get them in an Elegance.

My pd130 elegance has 102k miles now , and on the trip to work 50 miles mainly A roads & motorway i got 61mpg , and that was with some brisk driving .

Ok guys thanks for all your advice.

Is there a sticky on what to look for when buying a used octy?

Went for 'without cow' in the end.

Looked at both of them today and the Elegance was in much better condition. The L&K had loads of scratches and even a tear in the leather on the back of the drivers seat. When I fired it up where was a sizable plume of smoke and it seemed to vibrate a bit at idle.

The very nice people at Parkside Motors in Bolton were as I said very nice. I bought my last octavia from there too and I think I'll just keep going back there in the future.

Cheers for the advice guys. Question now is do I get a cheeky remap to make up for the loss of HP??? ;)
