New vRS owner - what alarm do I have?

Featured Replies

Hi

Just purchased a May 05 (YF05) Octavia VRS.

Was wondering is the standard alarm Thatcham apporoved?

If it is a Mk1 vRS Octavia then you don't have a standard alarm at all!

A Mk2 vRS came with an alarm. Don't think it is Thatcham approved though.

your havin a laugh aint ya, i live in liverpool:))

My rover had an alarm!!!! tell me it has an immobilizer

yep imobilizer and thats it im afraid...:o

If nobody has fitted an aftermarket alarm then as already mentioned you dont have on at all. The MK1 vRS did not has a standard alarm for the duration of its availability. The only octy vrs with a factory alarm is the mk2.

When I had my MK1 vRS I had it fitted with a Sigma alarm system that seemed pretty good.

It has a flashing LED in the door, that should scare the thieves away :)

how much was that if you dont mind me asking, im really supprised its dont have an alarm given the model. I am picking it up on Saturday

I was amazed that they didn't have an alarm myself, almost all modern cars do, as did my '99 rover!

"Modern" thinking has seen many manufacturers not fitting alarms as standard these days. Who takes any notice of alarms when they go off, anyway. If the car has an imobiliser its not going to go anywhere without the keys and if you don't leave anything of value in the car, there is no reason for anyone to break in. Well, thats the thinking anyway. I don't think that they (whoever "they" are) have actually told the scallies who do this sort of thing anyway.

Thieves are more likely to break into your house to relieve you of your keys and consequently your vRS, than stick a brick through the side window. If you are lucky, they find your keys and take the car without waking you and the missus up to hand over the keys! Alternatively, they could always carjack you at the lights.icon4.gif

My brother confronted a guy whose arm was fishing around through the broken front door glass of the house. Fortunately for my brother the theif legged it when he saw that my brother was starkers having been woken up at three in the morning, to the sound of breaking glass.

Toad ai606. Simple. It works, is reliable, has plenty of options (remote total closure, headlamps etc.) and is fitted professionally for around £325. It also work bark at anybody who walks past your car, or the wind, like a Clifford.

Hiya Guys...

I thought i would chip in on this thread, as i have just literally come back from Source sounds of sheffield, and had a clifford concept 650 with proximity fitted..

anyway to cut a long story short, the installer seemed to be pretty sure before i left that the octavia has an alarm system - he needed to know this in case they had to piggyback onto the system (that was this morning when i dropped it off)

I assured him that i had read on here that the octavia doesnt.. anyhow, just now when i have picked it up... he said to me i dont know where you get your information from, but it definately has got an alarm system, as he had found a black control unit opened it up, and it had outputs for the hazzard flashers, siren etc...

so am just wondering if the parts are actually there, but are not in use by skoda?????

just thought it was worth mentioning... anyway iam now happier with a top of range system - after my previous bad luck with having the last car written off.

cheers

lee

Definatley not there, if yours has one it may have been fitted by a previous owner and decomissioned when it broke or simillar.

The central locking control unit is a black box with outputs for the indicators (they flash when you lock it).

ahh right, maybe thats what he saw then... he just seemed to be very sure it was an alarm, maybe, my car has had an alrm in past life at some point....

speaking of central locking... my drivers door still dont lock :o so i have to blip the clifford and then lock the drivers door with key.. what a carry on  really must sort out the unit that controls the locking.

good job i keep my keys on me lol.

only way a theif is gettin them is to KO me or kill me.

mmm

so they dont have much chance. lol

there is 2 things ill protect wi my life lol and its not this country lol

The mk1 Vrs has a thatcham approved immobiliser (cat 2) as standard, that's why there's a red LED on the door button which flashes once the car has been locked, but no alarm system.

However it's only a matter of having a cat 2 to 1 upgrade fitted to bring the system up to full cat 1 spec, which works out cheaper than having a full cat 1 stand alone system fitted as it works in conjunction with what's already there.

is there a system out there that you can install so it uses the key?

so when you lock it it comes on, just if I get one I dont want one of them silly lookin cheepy button things.

my dad had a nice one for his old mazda that looked jus like my key. had 2 buttons on 1 to lock n unlock and the other was to set the alarm off. if someone got too close you could scare them a bit.
