Quick bit of advice needed

Featured Replies

Afternoon,

have used this site for long time, butthis is my first post. My 1.4 fabia has issues with starting from warm - have looked at previous threads and all seem to agree that coolant temperature sensor is liekly to be main reason for this problem.

Heard back from my dealer today who has ignored this fact as nothing is showing when diagnosis check is done. He advises low battery and 'sticky' starter motor as reasons for the problem - and wants to charge me £320 to replace both!

Just wandered if anyone has advice on a) how effective changing the temp. sensor would be and B) how reliable dealerships are in assessing whats wrong in the first place.

I'm tempted to bite the bullet and tell them to replace the sensor anyway- as having read previous posts am convinced this is whats wrong with my car.

Any advice would be greatfully received.

Many Thanks

My 1.4 had exactly the same issue dude, King Lummox fixed her nicely tho with I do believe.... a new temp sensor ;) (I am sure he'll correct me if I am wrong)

HTH

I have had trouble with hot starting in a Ford, when the starter motor had worn the shaft bush badly - and that could have been fixed with either a new BIG battery or (root cause) new starter - if the power lead was not burnt due to the terminal crimp slackening. I'd hope that your garage could have worked out (a) if the battery was fit enough and (B) if the starter was giving trouble after a "hot soak", before jumping in and changing them. IMHO there is a big differance between the symptoms of wrong mixture and slow cranking. The only problem could be that your car has a fault with the mixture AND a weak starting system - we would really need to see the car to give a good diagnosis.
