Bio Diesel

Featured Replies

Hi guys, im looking at putting bio diesel into my skoda, its a sdi, 51 plate ex taxi with 200k miles on the clock,

Its a daily runner, looking for a cheap way to run it, bio diesel is 80p per litre, saving 20p a litre.

Ive spoke with the company, she said my car should run fine on it, there is no particular way to use it, but some people do a 50/50 mix of bio diesel and ordinary diesel, others just use 100% bio diesel.

She said that shes recommends changing my fuel filter after a couple hundred miles as it breaks down all the crap within the tank. Also that i would have to change my filter more regularly.

It sounds like the way forward to run a cheap car, i wont do it if its gonna gub my car in the long run, yes the car is old and has high mileage but still runs great for a car with high mileage.

Does anyone use Bio Diesel or has done in the past?

Regards

Graeme

Biodiesel Approval

Cars OK on Biodiesel

In terms of official compatibility, despite the majority of diesel vehicles on the road being fine on 100%, only a handful of companies will officially approve their vehicles for 100% use. The companies that have approved 100% biodiesel are VW, Audi, SEAT and Skoda. They have approved all their cars built between 1996 and 2004 on 100% use of ”RME” Biodiesel (Biodiesel made from Rapeseed) providing it meets the specification DIN41606 (which was later replaced by EN14214). These companies can still provide some brand new cars warranted on 100% biodiesel but one has to request it (best to get the official letter from German Base as some UK agents aren’t fully aware). As these companies have officially approved 100% biodiesel I urge you to use your consumer power to support them in supporting the environmental movement. (e.g. Ask manufacturers directly via Dialog Center > Dialogcenter > Volkswagen Deutschland)

I would be quite interested in running mine on something cheaper, but as long as the economy does not drop too much. I guess you can't get it a filling station as such, and have to have a tank at home with it in?

I'm running my 2000 W Reg Skoda Fabia 1.9 Sdi on B100 Biodiesel. It's run fine the last 2000 miles on it. Economy has been a little less in the cold weather, maybe down 10-15%, but it matches diesel in normal weather conditions. I am not mixing it at all. I have not converted my engine. I think a new diesel fuel filter is due, in fact the poor car is due a service as it is 4k overdue now. So far so good. The old Sdi engine is good for one thing and it's a reliable and tough old thing.

The diesel engine was oringinally design to run on peanut oil!

So running it on bio diesel ist much different!

The car should run the same but be a bit quietier as it lubericates better than normal diesel.

There are lots on the internet about it if you look

I had some in my TDI and the PD for a while and it ran no different

Run my Tdi on a mix of normal diesel 15 litres to 30 litres of biodiesel, no issues so far.

type into google your postcode + biodiesel and it comes up with suppliers, i discovered a place selling it on a pump about 2 minutes from where i live that i didnt know existed, that was in my citreon xsara 1.9D and that ran fine on it, only thing i noticed was the fuel filter need more frequent changes, if vw group approve it then definitely go for it :)

Hi, i'm new to this forum, just reading your comments about biodiesel as i'm interested in buying a diesel skoda. I am running a diesel mondeo with over 200k on it. I've been using biodiesel from about 180k with no problems, just changing the fuel filter more often and the car is a little harder to start on a frosty morning. i make my own biodiesel from used cooking oil that i collect from a local chinese, the finished biodiesel is costing about 18p a litre. the law was changed during the summer 2007, anyone can now make biodiesel for there own use, you are not allowed to sell it. So does anybody know if skoda approve B100 biodiesel for their cars, if so, how do i check. I know that V W put stickers in the boot floor of certain cars to indicate approvel for B100 biodiesel. The code is 2GO. I got this info from the V W web site, but there is no info on Skoda or SEAT sites. I hope this info is useful to someone.

I put some in my SDi today, at £101.9 Per litre its not bad value atall. the stuff is apparently 20% Derv and 80% Bio (whatever that means, used veg oil I assume). If your in the manchester area and want to try it then its the St Annes petrol station on Ashton Old Road at post code M11 1GR. Maybe someone should make a thread listing Bio diesel suppliers and stations as making it yourself isnt the easy option for most people, and nor is it always going to be economically viable to make your own.

All my local suppliers seem to have gone bankrupt  So a list of companies actually supplying would be very handy - especially anywhere on route between Weymouth - Blandford - Salisbury - Amesbury

Yeah it would be useful to have a list, however ive found this site which gives you a point of interest file for your sat nav that lists the nearest bio diesel and lpg stations. How up to date and accurate it is I dont know but probably worth a shot. http://www.lpgmap.co.uk/download.php

EDIT: Actually this site also has a google map database that you can search, very usefull indeed here is the link, just type in your post code or area and it will show you all the Bio diesel and LPG suppliers in the area. http://www.lpgmap.co.uk/map.php

I think thats probably just an LPG place mate, I did a search for it and when you click on the yellow balloon and it brings up info on the station, in the bottom right hand corner it just says LPG. They might do both though.

I tried a couple of searches for you, this place came up and said that it does do bio diesel.
