I'd say BMW's three litre 6-pots are among the best engines ever made - amazingly smooth and lovely to rev :)

Yep! I wish I could afford one

I had one just like this, but 2001 on a Y for 5 years/50,000 miles. Bombproof reliability - only ever saw the inside of a workshop for servicing/MOT - and good spec on the SE Exec including full leather, electric/heated seats and cruise. I still miss the heated seats on cold mornings.

As others have said the VTEC engine needs to be revved hard to use the performance.

A good car, but not a great car like its replacement (Octy II vRS). If I'd known then what I know now about Skodas I'd probably have had a Mk1 Octy Vrs!

I have already got one of those! :P And I am keeping it!

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. I am currently looking at 2 cars. A 320 ML mercedes on a V plate with 97000miles for £3995 and a Golf 2.8V6 4motion, 2000 with about 79000 miles for £3995. I must admit, I have a soft spot for the mk4 golf and with a 2,8V6 it just sounds fun!:D

If that was my choice I think I'd need about 2 seconds to pick the Golf :D

That was my thought. SWMBO thinks that I should buy vrsPhil's Passat TDI 130 though. Nice car, but sadly lacking in the V6 department:rolleyes:

Nissan X-Trail

2.5 petrol or 2.2 diesel

Switchable 2 or 4 wheel drive

Super big sunroof

Wipe clean seats and hard plastic boot for the kids!

Dirt cheap now too unhappily for me. £3.5k will get you a lot of car... (get cruise though)

I think a lot of people were bothered by the reports of timing chain/tensioner and turbo failure for some model years, and the issues with the Navara must have rubbed off a bit too.

The ML is the 4x4 one isnt it? the g-wagen will beat it off road.

Yes the ML is the 4x4. I'm sure that the g-wagon will beat it off road, but the chances of it actually seeing much mud are pretty slim :D

I really shouldn't have a 4x4 as I don't need it. But I do like the idea of 4 wheel drive on the golf ;)

Land Rover Discovery TD5 :D

Well...... i've done it! I have put a deposit down on a 2001 2.8V6 4motion golf. Metallic Black with Black heated leather seats. Electric Sunroof and all the usual toys and gadgets!

All things being equal I should pick it up tomorrow with 12 months MOT for £3700 and 66,000 miles on the clock :D

It's a 5 door model.

Don't worry I will be showing it off ASAP! If only Skoda did a V6 Octavia, that engine sounds fantastic! I reckon get a CAI on there and it might sound even better.

I reacon they should re-issue the 2.5 V6 diesel, put it in the Octi vRS and tune it up :D
