Other 1972 240Z Project

Featured Replies

In the absence of a Skoda or two wheels to winker with..there was a desire for a little project to do concurrently with working over the Summer before starting my MSc.

That little project would manifest itself in the form of a rust free* Californian import

The original plan was for a 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner and to conjure up a sleeper muscle car...which handled...after the sale of one fell through and in the severe absence of such cars in the UK...without breaking and entering the local banking establishments...a compromise (read: huge change of plan took place)(*note: rust free actually means 'rusting back to nature' don't believe sellers/fridge magnet tests/hammering sills with a screwdriver, nothing is ever as it appears)

So I trekked to a barn in the middle of the Midlands and (with hindsight) stupidly purchased what is so far (other than his degree title) one of the more costly mistakes he has made in his short lifespan. (excluding an ex-girlfriend who had 'addictive' shopping tendencies for shoes...handbags..and..and...)

I give you 'Candice'...who smells like dead people/stinky fingers...truely.

Will do my best to keep this updated...but it'll be sporadic.I know it's not a Skoda 'so what's it doing on a Skoda forum' who cares, it's entertaining to watch money thrown at something with more open holes than Jenna Jameson, so really, it is there for your entertainment.

Jokes and slatings welcome

Agreed

Lots of potential!

Personally I think you've lost the plot , but good luck with the restoration.

It'll be lovely if you get it back on the road.

:PHow Much did you pay for it?

Stripped the interior

Left me with lots of bits and pieces

th_PICT1990.jpg

Nice but heavy original seats. Tried vinyl cleaner (they're vinyl...not leather) but am giving up hope they will come up clean so going to see if I can find some appropriate lightweight 'classic looking' Brides on a drifting forum.

th_PICT1989.jpg

Cracked centre console...maybe classically inspired carbon fibre home made replacement...with alcantara trim...?

th_PICT1988.jpg

Headliner

th_PICT1987.jpg

Bits and pieces

th_PICT1986.jpg

Doorcards

Spent the morning ripping everything out and labelling wire ends etc.

Pretty much all the vinyl interior pictured...which should look like this

th_1971_Datsun_240Z_Survivor_Interior_.jpg

But in actual fact looked like this

Ended up in here

Cool way to a cheap paint job. Good luck with the resto, hope it progresses smoothly

I'd love one of these - I'll be watching with interest...

..I sat down and had a think... :rubchin: and did some research...:coder::holmes:

..the 240z is not a rare car, it isn't the most incredible of cars, it certainly isn't the most gloriously stunning of all cars, and this certainly isn't a brilliant example of one....that was my justification for a little more thinking...and remembering my previous experience/fun/hands on approach with my old motorbikes...and a certain lightweight accomplice..

This in turn led to the purchase of a few rolls of this and that...

rear_caliper_side_1024.jpg

Things will be a bit quiet for a few weeks...I'm back off to the North to finish the few assignments and exams I have to do to claim my degree..hope this has whetted your appetite a little bit until then.

:tipspecs:

if anyone liking this thread has slow internet or dial up or who is stuck still in the Cretaceous period just let me know and i'll shrink the pictures down in future posts.

no keep them big.......

good luck with this , oneof my all time favoutite cars, have had 3 .

is the silver 1 in your pick a fairlady?

have had a few conversations with spike andersson who was the man.

have sat in big sam and ffa 194l which are the most famous of these in the uk.

there was or maybe still is a guy called will galliers who was a specialist in shrewsbury which was where i saw both cars when he was working on them.

bodywork was the reason i got rid of mine in the early 80s other than that these are the buisness.

Well you've definately got some work to do. Really hope it goes well. Will keep an eye on this.

Very impressed with both the car and your jovial attitude in the face of a mammoth rebuild!

I doth my cap, sir!

I've come to conclusion, along with many others on here, that you're nuts.

Proper hooked on the thread already though, keep us up to date!

I do a bit of carbon laminating, and would be happy to help if you need anything, i'm not a pro and dont do it for a business, but i like things to be right and would happily talk to you about anything you may be thinking of doing if it'd help..

Tony

p.s. no charge besides materials and postage...

Looks like a lot of work, keep it up.
