Any PD VRS drivers considering the Custom Code DPF removal and map?

Featured Replies

Yeah the last bit is the telling thing - tax as everwhere...above all else!

I used to think the UK was the biggest burocracy capital but I begin to believe Germany & italy are possibly worse. ( more fanatic about enforcing it - certainly in Germany)

Add Norway to your list... Car tax is calculated from hp, engine size, weight and co2 emissions. Annual tax will be cheaper with a DPF.

Thats why over 60 % of all new cars are diesels.... And if you chip-tune your car you should, by law, report it som that you pay taxes for the new hp-count.....

Anybody better.... ? :)

As far as I know the standard DSG box is rated by VAG up to 360nm. I believe the box itself can be 'tuned' to take more power but this requires mechanical as well as electronic changes to up the oil pressure and clutch opperation.

Several tuning firms have stated that they have tuned PD140s to over 400nm and had no problems reported with the standard DSG box but I have not been able to get any realistic feedback on numbers tuned and miles done since without problems plus how the car is driven from anyone, just a blanket statement that they have not had any DSG problems reported.

If anyone has run a tuned PD140 with over 400nm for any length of time perhaps they can report their experience.

I have my PD140 remapped from new, according to the tuner it has approx. 175-185 BHP and approx. 400nm of twist. The DSG hasn't missed a beat with 235,000kms on the clock now !! The DMF was replaced under warranty at 130,000km but I don't think that is unusual judging by posters on here. I am a sales rep travelling the lenght and breath of Ireland so the car is always stretching its legs, I think if it was constantly in city traffic it might be a different story................hope that helps !

I'm holding off for the time being, but watching the situation very closely via the threads on seatcupra.net. Latest update from Custom Code was

'After speaking with the guys in the office we are going to hold off on the GB for the time being - we are still carrying out some extra tuning on these to make sure everything is 100% off and will never come back as well as getting the most power and best return in MPG.

I would expect that we will be able to offer the kit as a GB in the near future but we will need to see 10+ cars for some good discounts'

I'm having it done a week on Thursday at JBS / Custom Code. £554 inc downpipe, fitting and mapping. Negotiated the price at GTI International. Just hope I can squeeze a decent innings out of the stock clutch before I have to get an uprated one. I've not been able to find an official spec max torque figure for the OEM clutch, only conjecture.

Oh, great price! So bad I can't find them abroad...

Just managed to slide this one under SWMBO's radar. Messenger log:

Me: I've got to nip down to chesterfield on thursday

SWMBO: why?

Me: car thing

will wait around while they do it

but they've got wi-fi at the garage

so I can work there

Sent at 2:25 PM on Tuesday

SWMBO: what car thing?

Me: just needs a software update

and thing on the exhaust looking at

SWBO: okay

Just got away with it with a bit of very careful phrasing!

Oh great :) !

The good thing is you weren't even lying

Looking forward to hearing the results:)

Mapped and driven home. Very different car to drive. All or nothing torque spike gone. Now very smooth, much more linear. Great top end (for a diesel ;) ).

No RR graphs to post yet though, will put them up when I get them.

Exhaust note significantly nicer.

Just picked my wife up from the other side of town. Assuming the accuracy of the trip computer hasn't been affected by the mapping, I've got 46mpg driving from one side of Sheffield to the other, through the city centre in fairly bad traffic.

Sounds good

Hope she was none the wiser that what you have had done has given you some *mysterious* extra oomph :D:D:D

Glad to see your enjoying the benefits. Hopefully it will give you better MPG like REVO does on the TFSi

Good to see you got Ultrac Sessantas on the Front but what are those on the Back?

Carl

:) - Nah, thanks to the traffic she's still none the wiser for now. Tyres on the back are the original factory Michelin Pilot Exaltos.

Sounds like you have an awesome car now wega3k!

How long did it take for them to complete the job?

Did you have a re-map on the car before getting the Custom Code DPF removal and map or was it standard 170bhp? I have the Bluefin on mine so producing around 200bhp so with the Custom Code bits done I might see 240bhp!

Thanks. I like it :) . Been out in the peaks today up over Strines Moor and that. It absolutely flies up steep hills even four up.

If you've already invested in a Bluefin, I'd say just stick with what you've got though. Superchips don't offer a DPF off map as yet. Maybe they will one day. I didn't have a remap on this car before this, but with the Custom Code DPF-off software I should have around 225bhp and stupid levels of torque. It certainly feels like it, but I've got to go back soon to get rolling road figures. My car was in for maybe 5 hours.

Took it out on my own to properly get to grips with it yesterday on some totally empty country lanes around my parents' house in the peak district. It's epic and makes a lovely noise too. I tried doing some quick launches and it took a bit of practice to tame the wheel spin in 2nd. I seem to be getting the hang of it though.

I'm looking forward to the sprint at inters next year. Until then, I think I'm going to have to install Dynolicious on my iphone.

SWMBO back on board and driving for economy, we drove the 28 miles home quite late on with no traffic and got 57mpg door to door including a stop at her parents. Not quite so good as my PD105 was but given I've now got double the power available and on wider tyres, I'm happy enough with that. It will be interesting to see what the long term economy is like.

Do you know if they are doing this for the 140TDi with DPF yet?

I don't believe so but you could always ask them or Will (P-Torque) if it would be possible.

You, lucky man :D

It seems it's really a no brainer mod.

And given all the pollution drawbacks given by DPF, your car is even more environmentally friend than the DPFeds.

BTW, and just out of interest, is there any smoke when flooring?

TIA,

I've not noticed any in the rear view mirror at all. The exhaust smells very different though. Smells like a diesel locomotive or my Dad's old Volvo 940 diesel. :) I think it definitely smells more acrid than my PD105 did, unless I've just forgotten and gotten so used to the DPF filtered exhaust.

Don't forget that any new pipework will smell 'hot' until you have got a few miles done; perhaps. It could though just be all those burnt gasses. :D

You suggest not having this done if one already has a Bluefin remap; is this just because the 'DPF off' remap (liberating 225 ponies) goes over the top of a Bluefin and effectively you've wasted your money (on the Bluefin)?

  • Author

Yeah, I think part of it probably is just the smell of the new downpipe.

With regard to the bluefin, yes, I just mean I wouldn't throw away the 400 quid or whatever you've spent on the Bluefin for maybe another 20 odd horses if you're already happy with the results. If I had a Bluefin I think I'd get onto Superchips to lobby them to do a DPF-off map. That would be pretty cool if they'd offer it as a £50 upgrade. The Miltek pipe itself is quite cheap - approx £200 iirc.
