Any PD VRS drivers considering the Custom Code DPF removal and map?

Featured Replies

Wega3k - How much negotiating went on to get the price down to £554 inc downpipe, fitting and mapping and what was the original price?

Bahnstormer vrs - As for the Bluefin I am really happy with the results that it has produced, however I still have a DPF on the car and this is what I want to get rid of. I am going to talk with Superchips and see if they are producing a DPF off remap themselves and what costs are involved. If they arent planning on anything then the Custom Code route is the way ahead. It might cost me a load extra but it will do away with the DPF, forever!! The Bluefin re-map will have to be uninstalled which will leave me £400 out of pocket, but much happier, so worth it!

benjamino - I believe they have been trying to charge a cool grand all in. Minimal negotiating really. It was at GTI International. I basically told them I was very keen on having this done but a grand was way too much and what was the best price they could do if I paid a deposit there and then to have it done. Bear in mind they were offering 40% discounts on standard phase 1 remaps at the show. Mike had a word with James and with Milltek and £554 was the price he came back to me with.

For reference, Will (P-Torque) is doing the same thing all in for £765.

This probably goes without saying but please don't think that Custom Code are going to match the price they did mine for. I guess they might entertain matching Will's price - maybe. I really don't know and tbh, it's not my place to speculate on their business. They may well have done mine for the price they did as I was an early adopter and they wanted cars out there with the mod to get it known in the marketplace.

wega3k - I have emailed Mike at CC and asked for his very best price. He is aware that there is competition and if he want's the business, then, well we will just have to wait and see what he comes back with.

As for Superchips I have also emailed them to ask if they are planning on doing the DPF re-map in the very near future. So I will sit back and see what comes back.

additional info

benjamino i have also emailed CC and they havent got back to me,if he gets back to you could you let me know to,cheers.

I tried doing some quick launches and it took a bit of practice to tame the wheel spin in 2nd. I seem to be getting the hang of it though.

A Whiteline Anti-Lift Kit (WALK) will help enormously with this annoying little problem.;)

As for Superchips I have also emailed them to ask if they are planning on doing the DPF re-map in the very near future. So I will sit back and see what comes back.

Considering the length of time it took Superchips to produce a map for the CR 170 TDI, I doubt they will do anything about a 'DPF off' map much this side of Christmas.:( In their defence they are thorough and do provide a warranty; this might therefore be a problem with them as removing the DPF will invalidate the Skoda Warranty (unless it has run out) and has a knock on effect.

We'll have to see.

Out of interest, I did a vcds log of some brisk driving today and the highest requested boost was 1.55 bar. The highest delivered boost was 1.6 bar.

How does that compare to the standard factory map and say a Superchips map?

Great thread i will follow your progress with interest , my wifes octy is fast approaching 3 years old so considering some mods

I also wonder if veggie oil could be used without the DPF

I have had a reply from Custom Code. The retail price for this is £999.73. They will do a 10% discount which brings it down to £899.75 inc vat. Without pushing for further discounts and prob being to to P155 OFF, I think this is the best we can expect.

I have emailed CC and asked if they will do a group booking discount. If anyone is interested let me know so I can collect numbers and get back to CC.

I'm still waiting for Superchips to get back to me, but aren't hold out much hope!

Bahnstormer vrs, or anyone in the know - without wanting to sound like a dullard, what is a Whiteline Anti-Lift Kit (WALK)?

Big difference in price from £997.73 to £554 at Custom code:rotz: and P-Torque at £765:rotz:

The £554 price seems excellent, would be worth noteing how many others get it at or near this price.Worth keeping an eye on this thread.;)

Bit of an update...

My CEL had come on soon after the initial remap with a DPF fault code, but this had no effect on the performance of the car. As it happened, JBS called me up to say they'd made improvements to the software and wanted me to come in to upgrade. I was impressed that they pro-actively called me before I got around to calling them about the CEL.

I took it back in last week to have it done. James was there this time so I had a chat to him. He'd gotten some extra equipment for working with the Siemens ECU and the net result is the DPF stuff is now taken care of in the Custom-Code software in a more elegant and "proper" way. He re-tuned the new software for my car and I was on my way about two hours after turning up.

Not much change from the original map on the performance front, it's still fantastic. . This time though, the CEL has stayed off and I've driven about 350 miles since the getting the new software.

I was driving up in the North York moors on Saturday and it's such a pleasure to drive. This car's overtaking abilities are absolutely epic. The whole trip of about 200 miles came in at 50mpg. Last night I did the drive from my parents in the peak distrcit via my in-laws on the other side of Sheffield and then home without traffic and got 60mpg average for the journey this time.

The only time I'm disappointed with mpg at all with the VRS now compared to my old PD105 is sitting on cruise at 70 - 75 on the motorway. The PD105 returned stunningly good economy in that scenario whereas the VRS is only doing high 40s. When I'm on the M1 this gets nicely averaged up by the 50mph average speed camera sections such that my commute from Sheffield to Coventry this morning yielded 53mpg average for the trip.

Perhaps the only way to get the mpg really close to PD105 levels would be to switch frrom 225 Vredesteins to 16" 205 Michelins - which I'm obviously not going to do, except maybe for winter. At the end of the day I can't complain too much as I've got double the power that I had in the PD105. :)

do you get much smoke now with the DPF removed? I hardly notice any on my CR 170 but my PD 140 used to dump what looked like the contents of the titanics boilers on the road when I accelerated in that

None and I have looked for it.

thats pretty cool, wonder where it all goes unless its all being burnt off

Are there any graphs yet to see if there really is and how much of a difference with the DPF delete?

Not yet. JBS's rolling road is going to be out of action for at least a couple of weeks yet. They've been re-laying the concrete in the left hand bay where it is I think.

To be honest i'd be more inclined to go to a neutral RR, maybe JKM's?

JKM's is way too far. I'd consider going to Awesome for a shoot out type day, but I can't be bothered just going on my own. I'm more than happy with the performance so the figures are only of mild interest. FWIW, dynolicious said 220hp using conservative transmission loss. I need to do some more runs with that though to see if I can beat it.

Hey Guys!

I have an update on the price of the Cutom Code DPF removal and re-map. I spoke with Nino on Mon 10th Aug and he informed me that they have now lowered their retail price to just £800inc VAT!

So on that Bomb Shell booked mine in!

Happy motoring!!

Cool! When are you doing it?

Booked the car in for Wed 26th Aug! Can't wait, counting down the days til that bloody DPF is finally off!!

Will let you know my first impression once down! I have a 120mile drive each way to Custom Code so will be able to compare the before and after!

Still having it done tomorrow?

I have just three words.

OH MY GOD!

This has to be the best thing I've had done to the car, infact any car! It now has SO much power and torque. I was getting wheel spin in 3rd gear in the wet!

My 120 mile trip seemed effortless!

The guys at JBS/Custom Code are spot on!! Got chatting with James about a few thing, very interesting!

I'm going to post a new link about a Milltek Sport Stainless Steel Exhaust for the 2.0 TDI vRS.

Keep an eye open for it.
