As the title suggests!

I'm after something quicker this summer when the finance is paid off on the Furby.

All are kind-of the same on paper.

RS - 6.2 0-60

ST - 6.6 0-60

TypeR - 6.4 0-60

All do around 30mpg and are Group 16/17 insurance and road tax of £215 (Soon to be £245). The RS and TypeR (Old shape) are a little cheaper than the ST, but you can get the ST in five door (Which I like). I've always dreamed of owning something with an RS badge. And both turbo cars have more torque than the Civic. The Civic has the best reliability record and only needs a service every 20k miles... The TypeR is almost the most common, so easiest to find a descent one. The RS was only produced for a year, 02/03, so all cars are older than the others!

I like all three.

I think the TypeR's lack of low down grunt would get on my nerves after a while. A friend has got an ST and he was getting 32mpg while bimbling around in the cold snap we had and just getting used to it - its now gradually coming down! Very nice car though - apart from it being red... oh, and a 5 door...

I think the ST's preferable over the RS - just newer isn't it - although not as subtle. Can you get the RS is anything other than that purpley blue colour?

I think they call it Victory Blue, and yeah it's the only color. I like it, but would you want a car the same color as everyone else's!!

I prefer the RS to the ST but would rather have a TypeR.

I've driven the Type R a few times. It handled really well, but obviously needed to be revved to get the best out of it, which can be tiring but is really addictive when on a charge. Having got used to a remapped Octavia vRS, I'd probably be tempted by the Focus ST as it sounds nice and is easily remapped to silly figures.

Get a new RS! It's only 5.9 to 62.....

For anyone whos had the priveledge to take a Type-r round the track or to even compare to the other two cars, you will come to realise that for all out fun the Type-r wins, although it has a lack of torque, its sheer mentalness more than make up for it, all it takes is a good driver to keep the type-r in its power band (just the same as a bike) and the lack of torque will soon be forgotten (although i must say i am a torque man due to my relaxed driving style) any driver looking for summer weekend fun should get the type-r over the other 2, check out the nurburgring lap times the Type-r anhilates both, and the ST is too subdued for what it is to really bring a grin to your face. Although with the Type-r, Hit V-TEC and you will be grinning from ear to ear whilst listening to the mental sound of the 2.0L VTEC Engine and flying through the corners as if they were not even there. (as for the comment on the new RS, its a bit lame really isnt it, not the comment the car, 300BHP and loads of trick bits which sound great yeah, well this is 2009, the good old Escort Cosworth was quicker than the new Focus RS and it only had 230BHP, an Impreza is also faster and cheaper.)

MY mate had an ST, you'll never get 30mpg out of it. He loved it though. He had his for 2 year and had no faults with it at all. The fuel economy killed it for him.

Get a Octy vRS save yourself about £8k put that into the car and you'll have a far quicker car with better fuel economy than any of the above.

If your dead set on one of the 3 the it would have to be the Focus RS

If you want a hot hatch get either the Civic Type R or a MK5 Golf GTi. Say no more. Forget ford.

Last shape Focus RS for me. The Civic is a bit dull to look at really. I agree that then engine sounds awesome, but out of the 3 cars there it'd have to be the Focus, just because it's a bit of a handful and needs to be taken by the scruff of the neck!

Would have to be the Honda for me - had VTEC Civic's before - they are completely addictive and give you a huge grin every time you drive 'em.

They run like swiss watches- for example I never had an issue with any of them in the 200k+ miles I clocked up between the three of them the only things apart from tyres, brake pads etc. I had to put on them were headlight bulbs!!

Is this going to be your daily driver? If so, would that influence your choice? My mate used to travel from Scarborough to Kettering in his Type R and found it a bit tiresome on long hauls. On our weekend blasts though, he then appreciated it's set up. As his annual mileage is now less than 10k, he's got an original UK spec Integra Type R and is very happy. He got an Octavia 4x4 diesel when the kids came along and really missed the Honda. When he was looking around to buy another, I suggested an Integra and he doesn't regret it one bit. It cost less than a Civic and is even more fun for those B road excursions.

Mark 5 golf GTI a hot hatch? I think that was a terrible car

The MK5 GTI is a great car. Have you driven one Yegnold? Not trying to start any off topic arguments or anything. Just wana know why you think its terrible.

My first choice would have to be Pulsar GTIR. Spend the rest on what you would on the Civic/Fords, and you'll have a perfectly reliable 350/400bhp little beast!! What a car, but for this poll, Civic for the win!!

I haven't driven one - no - but I have had a ride in one and was left completely unimpressed. Maybe I was expecting too much. It just seemed to behave like a heavy car and seemed to lack character. I also severely disliked the styling - it was a bit boring to me.

I do really like the look of the Mark 6 though and having read reviews of it it looks like it might be a better drive

Something I much preferred being given a ride in with a GTI badge on it was a Peugeot 205

It would be a daily driver, which puts me off the Type R a bit... as I just cruise around 90% of the time. I think the ST would be the best commuter (Five doors, spacious, quiet)

I've never driven a Mk5 GTi, but had a test drive in one of the bigger powered diesels and was disappointed. I'm from Essex originally, so Ford is in the blood I'm looking forward to having one again I must say!

New shape RS is out of the question due to price tag 2! I'm so undecided! More opinions please !

I like the loo of the Focus RS. A mate has had two now and they are quick. Also he reported getting mid 30's mpg on a trip to the Nurburgring IIRC. And the Look of it would do it for me.

Mk 5 Golf is the best all rounder, Civic most reliable but I couldn't live with screaming the tits off it just to get the performance and no torque. Fords - the ST is better and newer and can easily be chipped within a knats of the new RS. Great car to drive but p*** poor economy ( I have a Volvo S60 T5 with the same engine 15mpg around town ) also poor showing for donor car Focus in JD Power ( 67th place for reliability and 77th for build quality ) Me I'd take the Golf and chip it - lots of great hot hatches to choose from happy hunting. Oh the Megane 26R is top of Evo's hot hatch list but would it start in the morning ( French reliability )

Focus RS as it`s the most complete one of the three. It`s the quickest, the best handleing and looks the best.

That would be on my list, as the others are a bit obvious. That's why I went for the Skoda in the first place, just a bit different from what everyone expects. I guess the stealth/surprise factor appeals to me more than everyone knowing what you've got.

The £400 tax is a bit of a killer, but when factored in to the whole cost of motoring, it is only a small percentage of the overall amount of cash we spend to keep our cars on the road.

As for the performance, it is plenty fast enough for everyday driving - surely?

blow obvious and other people's expectations, I'd have the FRS over a vRS every time because from a fun, enjoyable drive point of view it's a far more complete package out of the box.
