Rip off???

Let’s get some things straight…..

The Facts -

Only a tiny minority of all Skoda owners frequent Skoda sites and forums' date=' so tell me, how do they find out about the code’s existence in the first place to search the web for them for free?

The vast majority of buyers would never ever have known that this feature was in their car and they are happy to be enlightened by seeing it listed on Ebay so bringing it to their attention and for a paltry sum of money they can then buy it if they so wish.

The result of the sale of this info on Ebay is that there are now many, many Skoda owners happily enjoying their purchase who would disagree wholeheartedly with all your blinkered opinions posted on this thread.

Listing on Ebay takes time and costs money and there’s Paypal’s commission charges too. No one in their right mind lists items on Ebay for free or with an aim to make a loss.

Selling -

I’ve long known about the codes and earlier this year I saw that there were many people selling them on German Ebay.

So I thought to myself, shall I be the first seller of them on UK Ebay or shall I let someone else do it first (probably a German professional Ebay re-lister) and let them make all the money?

I chose the first option and opted to sell them as I do not work either for free or to make a loss.

Rip-Off? -

I got in first and yes, made money from my initiative, time and effort but I never made anyone buy the info or ripped anyone off. In cases where the codes do not work, I refund the buyer in full, no rip-offs here either.

However, some people have conned me by getting a refund and some of these have even re-listed the info themselves but c’est la vie, I took this into account before I decided to sell the info.

I would have felt bad if I had openly listed the info as Ebayer Briskoda has done, now people can copy and resell it without even buying it!!! Nice one Briskoda…..not. What a plank.

Are HMV, Virgin, Woolworths ripping off people who buy music CD’s etc from them that are freely available on the web? IMO No, not everyone knows about Kazaa etc, same as not all Skoda owners know about the codes or that they are freely available on the web.

Greed? -

Another seller is using his earnings to buy a pool table for his seriously ill father who can no longer make it down to the pub to play. IMO a really nice thing to do for his father. Me, I bung a few quid someone’s way but I’m not going into details. So it’s not all greed as suggested in this thread.

So -

The above is the bigger picture as opposed to some of the narrow-minded opinions posted on this thread.

PS – I would like to warn the member above listing this info for free that this is a serious breach of Ebay rules. Someone else tried this earlier this year and had all his Ebay accounts suspended by Ebay Admin after someone informed them of his malpractice.[/quote']

sniff sniff sniff....whats that smell round here.....oh yes...bull$h1t

No one objects to people making a "butty", but when its at the expense of people who have put in a LOT of hard work finding these codes, and what they mean, thats when it becomes objectionable, you likened yourself to HMV, Virgin, Woolworths etc selling music, WRONG, music is copyrighted, and not freely available on the web, THATS the difference

To be honest, I could go on, but I find the whole of your post so thoroughly objectionable that it is beneth even my contempt, go ahead and report it to ebay if you so wish, it wont be long before someone else puts the same up, and there are enough members on here with both the knowlage and the inclination to make sure these codes are spread over the web

To Brian27, you seem to be a bit peeved that someone's rumbled your little scam, oh what a shame.

What is a shame is that no-one here can put together a constuctive reply in an adult manner.

I put forward my reasons for selling the info in a factual manner. Your replies would be more valid if they were posted in the same vein.

Is that a threat by any chance? I sincerely hope not.

I don't threaten, I take action.

The relevant listing was reported to Ebay last night.

They are already.

If you don't like it, don't hang around. And careful the door doesn't hit you on the ar5e on the way out..

You want facts? You're a cheap con-artist, there's a fact for you.

Feel better now do you? All empowered & feeling proud?

You & people like you are the very sort of people that make me avoid EBay like the plague. Cheap little Arthur Daleys that have no talent or ability of your own but make money on the backs of other people's hard work.

Im confused here now

HOW do i get

1) readings in F rather than C

2) speed display in climacontrol

1) This is covered on page 95 of the Octavia Owner's Manual. To switch over from degrees Celsius to degrees Fahrenheit and vice versa' date=' first of all press and hold the ECON button and then operate the AUTO pushbutton. NB This will also change the speed readout on the Climatronic from mph to kph and vice versa.

2) To access the diagnostic channels on the Climatronic, Press Fan Down, Temperature Colder and ECON [b']at the same time[/b]. Use the temperature control buttons to cycle through the various channels - Channel 16 is speed. Press ECON to go back to normal. (It goes back automatically when you restart the car).

(With apologies to those who have previously posted an answer to 2) in this thread).

Denis,

Do you charge for that information? :D

Jeez, are all Briskoda's so bitter and twisted? I hope not.

I've lost the instructions for my microwave, can you sell me some more?

Can't help with the microwave Geoff, but if you send me a tenner I'll let you into the secret of how to make ice cubes :shhh:

Excellent

Now, if you can also sell me a wiring diagram to convert a Vent Axia Fan to 12 Volt i can start building my mega FMIC :)

Denis' date='

Do you charge for that information? :D[/quote']No. I offer it as a public service to those who haven't read their Owner's Manual from cover to cover, and for those who haven't tried a simple Google search for Climatronic. :o

I see the eBay ads in the first post claim that the Climatronic can be set to show the car's exact speed. Having cross-checked speedo, GPS and Climatronic speed readouts, I know that just is not so. Moreover, members who have fitted non-standard wheel/tyre sizes will be aware that this has an effect on speedo accuracy. Since the Climatronic speed readout is not GPS-based, that will likewise be affected. That said, the Climatronic speed readout on my car is more accurate than my speedo.

Brian27, if you have managed to obtain an official Skoda list of Climatronic codes in English then you have done really well. I have been searching the web for at least the past 18 months and have found plenty of Climatronic code lists - but each differs noticeably depending on VAG brand, model and market. But apart from the speed readout, most if not all of the readings which can be accessed are of minimal if any use to the average car owner.

Will this do? ;)

Not dim enough to fall for your EBay crap though. :finger:

Thank you for an adult reply with no diatribe.

My listings were for access to the actual speed reading only and all the other info was supplied for free via a link for as you say, this info varies greatly from model to model. This was clearly stated in all my listings. As stated, I was not out to rip people off.

Thanks for your constructive post.

And on that final note this thread is now closed. :D
