Why do my indicators not flash anymore ?

Featured Replies

Just noticed this morning that when locking my Mk 2 Octy vRS with the key fob the indicators no longer flash, but they did previously.

They do still flash when I unlock the car using the key fob ????

Any ideas people ?

A door or the hatch wan't closed all the way. That's the car's way of letting you know.

Selbulbus is correct, or of course it could be that all your doors and the hatch are closed but one of the switches is faulty.

Could it not be that the alarm notification thing has been turned off in the MFD? I have never bothered messing with this, but I presume it stops the car from flashing the indicators and doing the little "plip" sound that it does when you lock up?

Right. just checked all doors and the hatch. All closed.

Went into the MFD and could not find any specific menu relating to the alarm or locking so simply reset to factory settings.

No change.

No warning lights or anything on the dash.

??

With sidelights on, do you hear the buzzer even if the driver's door is shut? With the interior dome light set to the door position, does it stay on?

just tested.

i have xenon lights with auto lights etc.

With side lights on the buzzer sounds when you open the door and stops when you close it.

when set to door position the interior light comes on when you get in and then stays on for a period but goes off if you turn the ignition on.

all seems normal

Alrighty, so your door switches don't look faulty either. What now?

everythings works fine and the doors lock and unlock fine .......the lights just don't flash and the beep has disappeared. It's surprising how reassuring the lights and beep are. I keep going back to check it's locked

easy enough to reactivate with vag com, guessing the car has forgotton it had it activated. mine every so often forgets it has cruise control and at least twice a year i have to tell it again that it does with vag com.

feel a trip to the dealer coming on.

c'est la vie.

Cheers for the help guys

Before you do...

Just been down to the office car park to have a little play with my MFD. Try this before you go to the dealer.

The MFD sequence is...

- Setup

- Convenience

- ATA confirm

With ATA confirm set to "on", when you lock the car all the indicators flash once and there is an audible "plip" sound.

With ATA confirm set to "off", when you lock the car all the indicators flash once but there is NO audible warning.

Have a mess with that and see if it changes anything.

HTH

Soapy

Also, might souond obvious, but check the bonnet lid isn't loose and the fuel filler cover too - I was amazed to find that my car won't give the audible warning and flash the lights until the bonnet is down and secured. Presume it's the same for the fuel cover.

Just a thought.

right.........done all of that and.................nothing.

Some other weird stuff happening too, rear offside window no longer operates, Navigation on maxidot switches itself on and off when it feels like it. Couldn't even get it back up earlier using the setup. I had to turn the engine off and restart.

Hmm that is interesting. Is that door locking and unlocking? Sounds like a faulty door module or perhaps broken wire.

OK - I'm beat. Definitely a trip to the dealer now!!

just went out to test the rear door and it wasn't locked.

as i opened it the alarm went off and i stopped it using the key fob.

now the lights flash again and the beep sounds as before.

the rear window appears to be working too

:eek::eek::eek:

gremlins in the machine ???

how spooky

Yup the rear window is connected. If the module is faulty, then it shows as a door open. I know this from When I disconnect mine due to a fault, and the alarm went off thinking the door was open!

The light buzzer will only work on the drivers door, or with some cars both the front doors.

Hmm.. more likely a broken/damaged wire in the rubber boot inbetween the door pillar and the door. Worth getting it down to the dealer for a check, or check it yourself if you want the job doing properly!!

My indicators don't flash when I lock the car... :-(

This morning the rear door is jammed closed and won't open
