Wynns Engine Flush

Featured Replies

My car is due a service soon and having never used it I am wondering if there are any real benefits to giving the engine a good flush with this.

I have heard good and bad things about doing this.

The bad being loosening crud which then goes on to block turbo oil feeds, oil pumps etc. This is obviously a bit of a concern so I thought I'd get some feedback before I commit.

Don't know about the Skodas but it gets used every time on the MX5 - cleans up the hydraulic cam followers a treat removing gums etc. from the oilways that cause them to rattle.

ive heard it can possibly unblock any leaks you might have which are currently plugged with carbon/deposits etc

I have heard bad things about these and oil additives, especially in the VAG engines. Most oils have cleaners in them and keep the oilways clear. If you have had regular oil changes then absolutely no point. I caused damage on my old Ford Mondeo ST200 using that stuff as it thins down the oil badly and then offers no real lubrication whilst the engine is running with it in. Certainly using it every time is a waste of money at best.

Cheers for the responses guys will save the cash then. Don't want to risk any possible damage.

ive used it loads of times (6 /8) in my vrs and ive done over 50k and my cars now 116k

normally dont touch this stuff but seen how many vag group cars come to the garage with failed oil pumps i changed my mind

so i use it,fill it up with new 5/30

thing is this engines prone to black death(carbon sludge build up) which normal oil changes dont remove:thumbup:

put it in and leave it to idle you dont drive with it in unless you want a new engine

i dont use slick 50 or any other oil additive though as i believe the oil pump struggles enough without trying to suck up treacle:thumbup:

I just change my oil more regularly to avoid this, usually every 5k and my engine is spotless inside:thumbup:

Have to agree with dakar, i use to change the oil religously at 6k on my previous cars. Did the gf's 1.2 Clio and boy was it full of cack. Was tempted to use some engine flush.

The crush ring didn't seal properly and i ended up replacing it the day after...bearing in mind the brand new castrol magnatec had only done about 40miles. I was suprised at the crud falling out of the sump already!

If i was looking to clean the engine out, i would look into draining and filling the car with decent...but of the cheaper oil with a new filter and running it around for a week or two, then dropping it and putting fresh decent oil like castrol or the likes in, again with a new oil filter.

If there really is a need to flush the engine through (due to neglected oil changes) then it may be better to use proper flushing oil (rather than an additive) like Flush Out 5lt [FO5L] - £10.98 : Parts Junction UK - Car Parts and Accessories, Your One Stop Shop for car parts and accessories Otherwise when draining, to try encourage crap out the bottom of the sump you could pour in something like Asda smart price oil, then drain that, and fill up with good stuff.
