Revo Questions

Featured Replies

Ok took the plunge and had the Octy Revo'd, absolutely awesome BUT seems to have lost some of the engine's smoothness :(

The background info to the query is as follows (apologies if this is going to go on a bit, but need to pick your brains ...) :

I fitted a Bailey DV30 dump valve before having the Revo installed, car drove fine.

Had Revo software installed (SPS2), went for test drive and noticed that when changing gear, car seemed to come off turbo abruptly. Mentioned this to the Revo Man who said that it probably needed chance to settle in.

Left the dealer, had Revo set to setting 3 (98 octane fuel) and the car drove fine but noticed, mainly in third gear when pulling slightly, there is a slight hesitation.

Turned Revo off and car has no hesitation (but no where near as quick or responsive). Then set Revo to 95 octane fuel, still the same hesitation, maybe slightly worse.

Have now set car back to setting 3 and done approx 60 miles. Car seems to be getting smoother although not as smooth as in standard. Have been told that the ECU will need to adapt to the new software and dump valve.

These are the questions I need the answers to (if anyone can help please):

(1) Could the hesitation get better as the ECU adapts?

(2) Could the combination of the remap and dump valve cause this, ie, the dump valve not suited to the Revo?

Apart from this slight hesitation (and I mean slight) the car is much quicker and much more responsive.

Thanks in anticipation

Cheers

Adam

Is this happening at a specific point in the rev range?....3000 revs perhaps?

Most noticeable at around the 3000 mark, yes, and usually in third gear when accelerating gently, ie, away from a roundabout.

Sounds like the old familiar overboost to me....however i could be wrong :)

A lot of remaps have this "problem" but i know it can be smoothed out on some. I have no idea whether it's possible with Revo so i won't comment....

Nothing to worry about assuming this IS the problem. If it's still there after a few more miles take it back and ask for it to be sorted :)

is it a piston type dump valve?was told to make sure that only a piston type is used as diaphram one saren't too good.(also is it the right way round?)

i have had to adjust my driving style slightly since revo was installed, was flooring the pedal and make a pigs ear of it,feeding it in smoothly now has helped alot.i have found that the local optimax to be useless so have been using "98 ron and putting revo onto 95 ron setting.

do you have the 3 or 4 bar program btw?i'm gonna be upgrading to 4 bar soon

Sounds like you could be on the right track, feels like the car just wants to go. Will give it a few more miles and see if it straightens itself out. As I said, it seems to be getting better. :)

Dump valve is a Bailey DV30 (piston type) installed the right way round.

Have found that it runs better with Optimax and 98 ron setting. Did try it on 95, which was smoother on the gear change but more hesistant under light acceleration.

Like you say, need to alter driving style as the car is that much quicker (embarrassed a VX 220 earlier today :D ).

Am running the 3 bar program. Let me know how your 4 bar upgrade goes.

Cheers

Just to make you feel a bit easier, i drove mine for almost 15,000 miles post-remap, with it showing exactly this characteristic, but it didn't bother me.

Since having my boost controller fitted & map adjustment last week it seems to be gone, so i'm a happy bunny :)

just been out for a drive in mine,3rd gear from 40mph and upwards ,from 2000 right to the red lines, its as sweet as a nut.

vx 220?straight line then ??;)had similar with a civic type R,left me for dead on the bends, realed in and passed him on the straight

Yep, in a straight line from a roundabout, guy driving smiled as I went past, his passenger lust pointed and laughed.....

How long has yours been revo'd? Mine seems to be getting better, journey today from Uttoxeter to Coventry car behaved fine, have only done about 150 miles since it was fitted....can only get a hesitation if I play with the throtle at a certain position, driving it quickly and it's smooth....
