Polishing out scratches on plastic headlight lenses?

Featured Replies

My headlights are pretty badly scratched. The scratches are light but there are lots of them (looks like they have been cleaned with a brillo pad :o ) and they are bugging me.

Is there anything I can use to polish these out? I don't have a rotary so something I can use with my elbow grease would be good :D

Try Meguiars PlastX or Menzerna PO85RD light polish...

Cheers guys. I don't have any T-Cut but I do have some 3M Perfect-It III fine which I guess might do the job? I'll probably just add some Megs Plastic-X to my collection just to be safe :P

Don't use T-Cut mate, it's too aggressive IMHO...........you will get better results applying products with a machine though.........;)

Try using a micromesh kit. Thats what we use for polishing out scratches in aircraft transparencies. Its very good stuff but not that cheap.

We call that stuff "monkey spunk" for some reason. But that stuff is good aswell. I used that for polishing my helmet visor. great for getting flies off.

good old service names, like yak ****

I had some of those euro convertors stuck on my lenses, they were not taken off by the previous owner and over time had literally welded themselves on.

I bought a glass/plastic polish kit and using a number of different wet and dry papers (working my way through them) rubbed off the covers and any other scratches/stone chips that were there, i then buffed it all out and they are near perfect now.

I have to say, this does take a leap of faith and is not easiest thing for any one with common sense to do HOWEVER it does actually work.....

Please dont do this unless you read up on this first as you can risk damaging your headlights if you dont do it properly!

If you need any tips pm me!
