Filler Cap Lever

Featured Replies

Hello

Interesting problem with my filler cap lever (you know, the one down by the driver's seat/door)

It has become increasingly stiff over the last few months, and the last time I tanked up, I had to use BOTH hands to get the damn thing to open. Anyone know any good fixes for this, or where the stiffness could be coming from? I'd like to avoid having to go back to the dealer for them to look at.

Cheers

my button seems loose enough :D

Maybe salt deposits at the far end? Grime build up somewhere?

don't break it though, better to pop it in, my clutch pedal was squeaking (past wd40 fix), asked dealer, they dismantled a fair bit of that area to fix...

tis my 2p at this time.

I have never been a fan of remote levers...I hate the 'what if they break scenario'. But on Comfort trim this is standard. My flap warped after 8 months and wouldn't close. I took it to the dealer and apparently it's a known issue.

Right - a trip to the dealer is on the cards, then :( - I'm sure they won't charge for it, but thats little consolation. I wonder if I can think of anything else for them to look at, at the same time?

Jason - have you looked at the filler flap itself? 9 times out of 10 problems with remote releases are at the "door" end, be that filler flap, boot lid, bonnet or whatever. Check that the flap closes cleanly and make sure no foreign bodies have become lodged in the hinge or catch mechanism. Lubricate the catch with WD40 or something.

Right - Thats a job for the weekend - to have a little investigation inside the filler cap. It always shuts smoothly, once I've filled him up. I'll break out the WD-40 too if necessary. Cheers.

i think you will find it's the filler cap warped with the heat very common problem i'm afraid.

Jason,

M.Thanx for your post - I've got the same problem, havent given it much thought other than it being a bit of a pain. Now as it seems to be a known problem, like you, I'll make the time to have a bit of a poke around...

Got my fller cap replaced, would not open from button, had to insert car keys in cap and then press button to gain access to tank, Dealer informed me that this was a "common problem".
