312mm replacement disc and pads

Featured Replies

Hello all,

My fabia has just failed its MOT on the front brakes so I need to have them replaced. I've got the 312mm Audi TT upgrade on it and just wondered if anyone else on here has bother with upgrading the dics and pads or just stuck with the standard when they have come to replace them.

On the rear I've got EBC Ultimax Sport Slotted Brake on the rear but after just a year these have got an advisor for pitting on the discs so I'm not overly impressed with them.

Any suggestion what I could go for or what I should avoid?

Thanks

:iagree:

The rear discs do no work anyway so will pit up regardless of what you use.

If you want to clean it up you need to do a few full on hard brakes from 70 down to 10 on an empty and safe road. This will make the rear brakes do some work and clean the rust off.

Not sure if it works on the fabia, but the other option would to be to drive a short distance with the handbrake very lightly on (in a straight line). Release it and let it all cool then repeat until the rust has gone from the rear discs.

cheers I will stick with standard for replacement. As for the rear discs I tried a few "cleaning braking" but it didn't help any, the test said they are fine for now but they are passed being "repaired" which kinda sucks as the original discs where on for just over 60K and these look like not lasting any where near as long :(

The MOT station are wanting £100 for the discs £65 for the pads and £75 for fitting........fair price or not?

No. Get the discs and pads yourself and fit. If your not sure then there are a few guides on here

right after thinking about it I think your right I will do it myself, just about to order the disc's and then though wait I'm I ordering the right part

I'm right in thinking with the 312mm upgrade its the same as an Auti TT 180bhp from 1999 onwards?

Sorry for asking a dim question but lately the brain just is not kicking into gear (no change there then!!)

Thanks

OEM discs are Brembo's (or at least the ones I got from GSF were) so they're top quality. Just under £90 for the pair plus around £40 for pads.

if the rears do nothing why are they fitted.....

I think I read in one of the many brake threads on here that the rears are responsible for about 10% of your overall braking, not much I agree unless of course you consider the handbrake.

Hello,

2005 Fabia VRS (as original)

I know this info is too late by now BUT !!!

"Mintex" discs and pads for front £76 all-in, standard 288m/m discs, & "Mintex" discs and pads for rear £38 all-in.

Both items purchased from E.Bay which came in their own boxes, with new bolts supplied.

Easily fitted, but you'll need the caliper rewind tool for rear, ("Laser 1314") as pistons are rotated (both sides clockwise) as being pressed back into housing. (Again E.Bay.)

You'll find loads of info and photos of front and rear fitting on this site, just look around.

Good-luck. Ian. 12/06/2009. :)

I can confirm from my track day last week that contrary to popular belief the rear brakes do a LOT of braking and make a massive difference.

It may only be 10 or 15% but that's 10 or 15% you'd definitely miss if it wasn't there ;)

if the rears do nothing why are they fitted.....

Brakes the the Fabia (and propbaly most other cars) work diagonally so left front and rear right on the same pipe line. If the front fails at least you will still have some braking from the rears. And ESP wouldn't work without the rears either.

OEM discs are Brembo's (or at least the ones I got from GSF were) so they're top quality. Just under £90 for the pair plus around £40 for pads.

Took the words right out of my mouth!

Right, would someone be good enough to give me some help?

I am looking for some replacement pads for 312mm brakes on a Fabia vRS.

I have looked on GSF and EuroCPs but not sure which ones I need. I don't really want uprated pads just OEM ones. Can someone please give me a link to the right ones.

I have spent ages looking on the websites and searching on here but need to double check.

Thanks in advance.

GSF

By the looks of it P/N 64327 or 64331 or 64345. Best idea would be to phone first.

64237 are quoted for the TT aswell
