Gearbox Oil ?

Featured Replies

just wondering if Skoda use very specific gearbox oils

i know at work, Renault, we only use Elf oils and we have a table of which box uses which oil

a lot of the oil application guides online say 'Refer To Dealer'

Edited by BRUN

Gearbox oil G 052 171 … SAE 70W75 Synthetic.

is that a part number or a type code ?

Moggytech, i'm sure its 75w90 , thats what i put in mine

ive never seen a 70W75 box oil anywhere before so i was wondering, a quick google though says G052171 is 70W75 though......so if it is then its a pretty specific box oil they take

Gearbox oil G 005 100 …

SAE 75W90 (synthetic oil) for FJW box

Gearbox oil G 052

171 … SAE 70W75

(synthetic oil) for FSM HDS box

Service interval "Filled For Life" but they don't say whos life

All above boxes are the 0A8 6 speed.

so what box do i have in my 53 plate vRS ?

so what box do i have in my 53 plate vRS ?

Check the gearbox information stamped into the casing.

I've got a 2004 53-plate and I'm sure I replaced the gearbox oil with 75w90 at 67,000.

Give Skoda parts a quick ring with your reg no. to find out for sure.

I put in motorquip's own branded stuff cause it was nearly half the price of the VAG stuff. VAG were charging £11 for half litre bottles - feck that right off! Daylight robbery!

that is expensive, but not compared to the price of a new box :)

im only enquiring in case i need a top up

yep understood these things are handy to know...

Tbh I wouldn't have thought the oil will ever need topping up though

  • Author

probably not but it needs to be checked at the service im having done a week on friday, otherwise my aftermarket warranty will be void

im told i have a HDS box, and the listed fluid is G052157A2 which is a 75W-90 and is £19.73+vat per litre

tried another dealer and im now told its G060726A

..

damn this topic has just made it harder for me to buy oil lol

I was aware that it was 75w-90 fully synthetic that the gearbox took but if there are 2 different types I better phone up skoda and check what mines is

thank you Ross for clearing up the confusion

Well i've tried..lol

  • Author

well, Ross has come up with the same number as my local TPS, however the dealer in Preston gave me a different part number, even after checking against my reg

Ross i presume that is a parts catalogue you have used ?...........is it up to date ?

any ideas what the second number i got was for ?

Yep its ETKA and is up to date.

There is no A but A2 is five speed gearbox oil.

  • Author

but mines a 6 speed, so is it not correct ?

The information I gave was from Skoda Service Manual for 6 speed box. However, oil specs are often updated. I would go with the G052512A 75/90W Synthetic as it has a broader viscosity range.

Strange that different dealers have conflicting information.

Conflicting information or the inability to tell between a five or six speed gearbox.

This thread is hard work..lol
